Ways to reduce your energy usage and electricity bills

Western Australia

In WA, if you, or someone living with you holds a valid concession card, you could be eligible for a number of concessions that help reduce the cost of your energy bills. These include the WA Government Energy Assistance Program and the Hardship Utilities Grant Scheme.

New South Wales

In NSW, there are a number of rebates available to concession card holders including the Seniors Energy Rebate, the NSW Gas Rebate and the Pensioner Water Rebate. Victoria

In Victoria, there are a number of concessions available to eligible card holders to assist low-income Victorians with energy bills and water costs. These include the Power Saving Bonus, a one off $250 payment to help with energy bills; an annual electricity concession; the winter gas concession, and two medical-related concessions. Queensland

Queensland pensioners and seniors may be eligible for the Electricity Rebate ($340.85 per year GST inclusive) and the Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate ($76.19 per year GST inclusive). The Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme helps low-income households pay energy bills at a time of crisis or in emergencies. South Australia

Eligible South Australians on low or fixed incomes can apply for help with the cost of energy bills for their principal place of residence. Energy concession customers are also eligible for additional discounts through the SA Concessions Energy Discount Offer. Tasmania

In Tasmania, there are a number of concessions available for eligible seniors including the annual electricity concession, providing a daily discount as a cents per day rate; a heating allowance of $56 per year to assist with heating costs; a life support concession, and medical cooling or heating concession. Northern Territory

In the Northern Territory eligible seniors can apply for the Northern Territory Concession Scheme that can give up to $1,200 per annum for electricity, and $800 per annum for water. If you exceed the concession cap and have a medical condition (or a dependent that has a medical condition) that directly affects your electricity consumption, you can also get a $154 allowance. Australian Capital Territory

In the ACT, you may be eligible for the Utilities Concession. This concession covers electricity, natural gas, water and sewerage and is calculated on a daily basis, with rates depending on the season. The annual concession amount for 2021-2022 is $800.
