Hey all,

I've got a weird problem with my audio. Its the factory stock cassette/cd/radio double din unit
with the steering mounted controls. Since a week ago it started cutting out going over bumps,
making right turns etc. Not straight away but after driving for a little while. When it cuts out,
none of the units work. It'll come back momentarily and then disappear again.

Any one knows whats going on? Is there a lose connection somewhere? Is the amp in the unit
dying? Also, if the contacts in the steering wheel for the remote gets dirty will that stop the
whole unit from functioning?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It cetainly sounds like a loose connection somewhere, or could be a fault with the circuitry inside the radio itself...

You say the whole thing goes out so if you mean there is no display when the fault happens then it is not the internal amp at fault but rather a power delivery problem to the unit.

I would start by oulling off the dash/radio fascia, remove the Radio/CD Unit and gently move the cables around at the rear and try and replicate the fault. If this fails gently shake the stereo(no cd in it!) and see how goes. If these fail then it could be a problem in the wiring loom so you could try and run a new feed from the Fuse box.

It's one of those "could be a number of things" fault.. Good luck!

No, not the whole thing. It still has power so I can change radio stations, change it to cd and
tape etc. Just no sound.

I'd say dry solder joint to the onboard amp, otherwise I was going to suggest to remove the unit, clean the body and chassis then refit to ensure you get a good ground. Since it still runs then it won't be that issue. The remote control cluster disconnected will not affect running of the system.

I tried removing those remote control buttons once as it's just unncessary clutter as I have not had my factory stereo for years now, but unfortunately it leaves a big hole and ugly metal brackets which protrude out.
