View Full Version : Moar Ralliart Questions
Plain and simple, just got several questions for my RA :)
1. Does anyone know if the 3.5 can be stroked to a significant degree?
- if so, should I go for forged conrods/crankshaft?
2. Anyone have an intact rear ralliart badge with colour still on?
3. As I desire to throw a sprintex on the engine, would I only need to forge better pistons and purchase new injectors? (Read an amc forum post on this but found myself lost like a n00b in all the jargon)

1. There are a variety of different cranks you can put in that will give you different strokes. Just about any 6G7X engine you can mix and match the cranks - with over/undersized bearings to suit. The most extreme applications you might find on the 3si forums. "Apparently" the forged pajero cranks from the DOHC are awesome. Forged conrods? Depends if you are doing something serious with your engine.
2. They fade after time or with poor care. They have been superceeded by an oval badge. Orderable through mitsubishi around the $20-$30 range. From a ralliart lancer and you'll get two per order, back orderable from Japan. If I can find the part number I'll update this post.
3. The sprintex kits were made to drop onto a stock standard engine. The boost is low enough to not warrant any upgrades. A 7th injector is mounted pre-charger. I have two complete kits that I'll be getting ready to sell soon. But there's a couple of people that are already in line to buy them. Pay attention to the for sale section soonish for more info.

What's the expected wasp gain on this low boost? I'm pretty sure you can up the boost as well? But then you'd be talking bout killing the engine off easily?

7psi without melting pistons and 10-13psi without snapping rods.
Forged pistons you can run about 12 to be safe with an intercooler to get heaps and heaps of boost.
With stock internals, you can run 7psi all day every day and not break anything. 50kwatw approximately but someone ought to correct me. Any higher than that and you need to look at an LSD (unless your ralli is a manual).
Injectors won't cope. Walbro is probably necessary.
Wind it up any higher and breaking shit is mandatory.

7psi all day everyday is a bit over... the 7psi engines do that significantly shortened lifespans.. then again some with 9+psi last a while? Its hard to tell but I would be buying forged pistons for some flexibility.

Forged pistons can be expensive to install.

It is expensive and I suppose you're right, but if you're doing pistons, you might as well do rods while you have the heads off. It will add another 3k to your build cost which is significant.
OP if you're going to go all out on it and wind up the boost, my suggestion would be to do pistons and rods, get your heads looked at, add some cams and get a Haltech or something running it all. 10k should be put aside for it all but that starts rising quickly if you need to budget for an LSD, then a heavy duty clutch. Tuning costs come into play, fuel management etc. 15k all up for double power and maximum durability.
Also, to answer another question in your original post, magna's have a factory forged crank.

I speak of cost because it is expensive. Very expensive. If you can afford it, awesome another boosted ralliart. Look forward to seeing it :D

So whats the go op? Putting a plan together?
Some people get special about money. I can't afford this shit lol

Easily got the cash, just scoping out the preceding infrastructure work the car would need :)

Right then.

This should get you started. They are designed for a 3000gt 6g74 DOHC block so you would need to confirm if they fit.
There are Wiseco pistons available as well at around the 1k mark.

If you were thinking of doing any work to the crank, you might be disappointed I'm afraid, as the 6g74 girdle is very difficult to take out, and worse to put back in. You would need a specialist engine builder (a bloody good one). From what I have researched, you can go up to 4.2l maximum displacement in the 3.5's although that would be an incredible painful and risky job. In combination with a supercharger running about 16psi for example, breaking shit becomes mandatory. The stock crank is excellent anyway.
4.2l 6g74 short engines with no pistons and no rods, can be bought for about $7,500. That would be the best idea to get maximum displacement. In combination with the rods and pistons mentioned above, you might have a successful motor, making it reliable would be a whole other question though. You would need to basically assemble the engine from scratch, although doing forged pistons, rods, bearings and bolts would be halfway there.
Am I digging too deep?
