I have spent alot of time trying to work out exactly what is standard for a TH 3.5l Magna. Does anyone have some suggestions as to what my car came with as standard and what features I am missing as compared to the 1999 Advance/Verada. I know I don't have power windows, airbags and all those extra interior lights, foglights etc. Does an Executive come with Electronic fuel injection? I have noticed on some other models a Vacuum pump? thing which is right next to the drivers side engine mount. My TH doesn't have one and I have no idea what it is.

How much trouble is it to upgrade to some of the missing features. I know that to get power windows off a Verada you need to get the door panels, motors, and do the wiring or for fog lights you also need a new indicator stick to get the switch. Are there any easy upgrades that can be suggested especially for stuff that might be found at a wreckers and can be done cheaply

Link to Redbook that might help - HERE (http://www.redbook.com.au/cars/research/Mitsubishi/Magna/1999)

Not sure how accurate it is, but its a starting point. Some TH owners will fill in the blanks for you.

That Vacuum pump near the drivers engine mount is for cruise control. All 3rd Gens had fuel injection irrespective of trim level or motor.

Wiki also has a basic run through of advances through the magna range.

I've not seen any glaring errors there yet.

Woodgrain trim.

Leather Seats.

As you've said interior courtesy lights.

Have a look around your nearest wrecker to get some idea of what you might wanna upgrade your car with.

If You want to know what can be achieved with a verada.
Take a look at mcs_xi's old ride.

It was pretty much the pinnacle of what can be upgraded internally.
Seeing as though the car is no more. I'm sure he won't mind if you grab some ideas from it.

spent some time looking through some wrecked veradas today, very tempting to try to upgrade to electric windows, wood grain etc. I nearly picked up the woodgrain console and facia but the buttons are all different and I'm not sure about the aircon unit attached. It looks different. Also considered chrome door handles but some of them were wrecked so couldn't get a full set. The thing I really wanted though was the leather gear stick knob. On a magna there's a screw but on the verada nothing. does anyone know how to get it off? Is the screw under the leather?

I dont suppose you were at u pull it south today?

As for the gear knob, under the push down button there a small nut about 12mm. Undo that and the shift comes off.

The climate control on the woofgrain models will be completely different to what you have. You will need to pull out the dash and change looms to get it to work. Then the motors on the air boxes are different....

You might be better off wrapping your trim parts in a leather-look, or carbon fibre-look wrap.

They can be had on eBay for cheap and transform your interior.

Power windows are a bit easier, just fiddly with all the little clips and everything holding existing stuff in.

I have a KH Exec and can safely say from a feature standpoint, they are very basic. manual windows, no cruise, lack of ABS, TCL and airbags. Quite unsafe, especially by todays standards.

However Magnas are great to mod: in the time since I've had mine, if fitted (and since removed) parabolic headlights, fitted a KF verada grill and proceeded to replace it with a KH verada grill, I've changed the repeater indicators to clear (which are actually going yellow due to being cheap chinese shit), fitted an aftermarket cruise control system which I replaced with a factory setup, fitted but removed a blackout cluster (was doing funny stuff, would blink every now and then which got annoying), fitted but removed woodgrain interior, replaced all interior lights with LEDs, completely replaced the audio system, and some okay looking mags.

I'm umming and ahhing about doing a full KH loom conversion which will open me up to power windows, climate control, and little bits and pieces that come with having the upper-spec looms in the car (eg, footwell lamps)

Just sell your car and buy a Verada, much cheaper and lot better then trying to change everything, you could buy a 2000 model VERADA with all the bells and whistles in good nick for around $3,000 but thats just my two bobs worth

I have a TH Exec, it came with f all.

it now has the following thanks to Mal and the wreckers

Electric Windows
Cruise Control
KL Climate Control
KJ Blackout Dash
Fog lights with stalk
chromatic rear view mirror
KJ front bumper
TJ/KJ bonnet
TJ Grill
TJ Boot

wasn't that hard to do, but did require a fair bit of a strip down as I needed to replace a fair few looms, but well worth it now it's done

Sorry for my ignorance but when you guy talk about looms I take it you are talking about complete wiring systems. When they made these cars in the factory they started out the same but when the wiring went in the Verada models got different wiring to enable the extra features. To clarify what I mean Veradas don't just have extra wires but their wiring is completely different?

Yes looms means wiring, and it wasn't just the verada that had different wiring, my TH didn't have the drivers side wiring for the electric windows, but had it on the left side, most of the wiring was missing for the cruise control, I had to add the wiring from different models to get the features that I wanted.

If your TH is pre-April '99 then you will be missing the dash wiring for cruise (like me) but if its post April then it should have it (apparently)

My TH is April so I have no idea. ..............................(edit: I guess the reason the are so many differences in our Magnas could be that so many of the guys who built them at the factory were stoned at the time. :)

I have spent alot of time considering which upgrades I will be wanting but obviously money is an issue. I know many people would say I should just sell my car and get a better one with the options I want but I am adamant I will not be selling this car. Before I started working on it when it was in the worst shape of it's life I was offered $1,500 as a trade in. Since then I have tried to replace all the damaged interior things such as broken handle surrounds etc and replace panels to remove dents (plus some painting). Starter motor, Alternator (both Bosche). However this car is worth more to me than what someone may offer. To me it also includes the value of new parts which I have installed as well as all the work. It is also something I feel strongly about that you don't just dispose of your car because of its age or how many k's. To my mind this is the best Australian made car in the 20th century.

Anyway back to features - I have looked over many different cars at wreckers and on the net (here) and have decided the whole vereda look is not what I personally am aiming for. I like the dark grey interior but would like power windows. To start with I will need the doors interiors many of which I have seen both in the two tone of the Veradas as well as others in the dark grey.
So I am I actually talking about upgrading my car so that it has the features of an Advance?

Will have to do some more searching I'm sure there will be something on the forums about electric windows.
