Finally back after 3 months. Lovin the 380, and for some magical reason managed to woop a mates ass at the lights in his 2012 SV6...ute. Not sure how that works :/. Anyways I have a friend who works at an exhaust shop who's convinced he can permanently deactivate the CEL if I let him do a completely new exhaust. Full of crap??? Also, is it worth getting a cold air intake setup or just get the Galant intake. Funnily enough I can find no info on either of these things for the 380 specifically no matter how far back I look on the forum...cheers!

I'd be clarifying just how he deactivates the CEL... i get the feeling that "permanently deactivate the CEL" is a literal statement.

Hey Fusion, I "upgraded" (more like changed) the exhaust from the standard 60mm (or 65mm) intake to the Galants 90mm intake snorkel Ns I have noticed two things for sure.
#1: The fuel economy improved (Varies from 1-2km/l).
#2: The sound has changed, for the better, to certain extent.
This us my personal observation.
I am thinking of changing the muffler as well but have few other upgrades in mind.

Remove bulb. Fixed.

Is you CEL on? If yes, then maybe you should look into why its on before how to turn it off ? :)

Theories on why a 380 is quicker than 2012 SV6.
- Driver ability or willingness to give 100% throttle.
- SV6 is auto and 380 is manual
- RWD drivetrain loss is higher than FWD, so power becomes more equal.
- SV6 has tall gearing for fuel economy, hurting acceleration
- you have mods for more power
- you haven't been doing burnouts and killing the tyres so still have traction for the traffic light GP!

SV6 is rated at 210kW and 350NM
380 is rated at 175kW and 340NM

The CEL isnt on..yet. But if I do anything to the exhaust from the muffler back it will go on. Playing with a 380s exhaust is....complicated, according to the forum, but he seemed to think it was no problem. Hes not talking about disabling the entire CPU, just clearing the fault code for the exhaust permanently. And my car is completely stock atm, I was just wondering if a cold air intake will do anything more than just the 90mm snorkel upgrade. Theyre only a few hundred more than the snorkel.

The CEL fault codes that come up once you start playing with the 380 exhaust, and especially if you replace the stock exhaust manifolds with extractors, are all to do with the two rear O2 sensors. Once you remove the two 'pre-cats' in the stock exhaust manifolds the ECU doesn't like the readings it is getting from the rear O2 sensors and throws about 6 different codes. The most common ones are P0056, P0140, P0141 and P0161. Pretty much all of them are "O2 sensor heated circuit" codes. One supposed way to prevent these codes is to install O2 sensor extenders for the two rear sensors, the theory being that taking the O2 sensors out of the direct exhaust gas flow fools the ECU into thinking everything is still stock. But most of us who have tried that have found it makes no difference, the codes just keep on coming back. There is nothing wrong and the codes are harmless, but the constant CEL is annoying. What I and a couple of others have done is remove the instrument cluster and block off the CEL light/bulb with a small piece of black foam. Very easy to do, and no more annoying CEL. But then you won't know if a 'real' CEL has been thrown, so what I and others have done is buy an OBD2 scanner and use it regularly to check for other/real fault codes. Of course if you get a serious fault the ECU will throw a hissy fit and shove you into limp home mode. And with the uber-fussy 380 ECU it doesn't take much to invoke limp home mode.

Thats what I was looking for. Cheers :)

Or, after installing extractors (which removes the cats) you could just replace the white brick cat with a real one, and then extend the wiring for the rear oxygen sensors and install them beyond the new cat.

And what of the cold air intake?

That's what I and a couple of others have done, but still the CELs keep coming!

No evidence that it's any better than the Galant 90mm snorkel, either for power/torque or fuel economy. Maybe a bit more induction roar.
You're better off cutting the end off the air box lower intake resonator, easy enough job and it's free. Plenty of threads about it.

Damn 380s...bit too smart for my liking :/
