Noticed that some 2nd gens have a central clock, whereas mine has just a panel. How hard is it to retrofit one? ie. is there wiring ready to power it, does the panel just pop off, etc? Also, are they readily available from wreckers?

Um... between the air vents in the center of the dash, there's either a clock or a panel where the clock would be...
Tracked down some pics in the posts to illustrate:

Sorry, my bad....i misinterpreted the word 'clock' as 'lock', hehe
Yeah you should be able to get the clock from wreckers. Although you'll need to find one from a Magna SE/Elite or any of the Verada models.
The panel is easy to pop out, grab a thin flat head driver and pry it out. The clock would then just snap in. Although the wiring is NOT there, you will need to do that yourself.
Oh and i got one from the wreckers for about $15.

OMG $ 15 dollars for a clock!!!
i got quoted $400 new and $250 from the wreckers!! for a friggin clock!!
the wrecker gave me my existing one for free as it was busted, but your right, unless you have a verada loom installed in your car, no time keeping for you unless you still have the dodgy factory cassette player!!! lol

Strange why they wouldn't have something as simple as a clock standard on all the 2nd gen magnas  How tight ass does mitsubishi wana get.
Both my galant and cordia had digital clocks in the dash as standard.

on the lower spec models it was incorporated into the factory head unit, but whats the first thing you rip out when you start modding a car???

Does anyone know how much the plastic surround that goes around the head unit and the section below it with the cig lighter and power mirror controls would be from a wreckers or mitsu?
coz mine is missing all of that (previous owner must of just ripped it out when they ripped out there stereo set up and not bothered to put it back in)

Im gona find out how much one would be from a wreckers early next week and if it ends up being heaps more than $15+ postage (like more than $50) they i will prolly grab yours if you wana send it too me.
Does it include the cig lighter/mirror control section?

well all of the aftermarket headunits i have so far had a clock in it :) although it was never right considering i seem to always disconnect the battery every few months, but i've got a clock on my phone and a car kit so thats my clock for now :)
I actually bought the analogue clock, the front reading light and the centre piece interior lamp with rear reading lights together for $50.

HOORAH. A pic of my car was used. The one with the clock. Yeah they are in the Veradas and SE's. Im guessing if you did get the wiring it would be a pain in the a** tho

Wouldn't you just splice the wires to your radio?
