Hi everyone

I have a TH magna and the tumbler appears to be buggered. I can get the key in and sometimes get it to acc but thats as far as it goes and is sometimes difficult to remove. Have drowned it with WD40 to no avail. What is the cheapest nastiest way to get this thing going again?

Try a different key.
Failing that, pull the ignition barrel out, buy a new one, and get a locksmith to adjust the tumblers to your key. Some lube once in a while (NOT WD 40) would have prevented this.

if not WD40, then what?

WD40 is a cleaner, mostly kerosene, you should use something that lubricates like silicone spray.

is there a way to bypass / disable the immobilizer and just use some random ignition switch?

Doing that requires ECU tuning, I believe. The old trick you see in the movies of cutting a couple of wires, joining the right wires together and starting a car doesn't work. Never has. lol

You could try taking the lock out, dismantling it and pulling all the tumblers out. Then the key should work again. You would still have immobiliser capability, and the car will look standard.

so close to fixing. battery was drained after 4 months sitting there. not sure about taking apart the tumbler assembly. Do I need to grind or drill all the rivets to get at it or is there some trick?
