Greetings All.
Yesterday I just went into the new autobarn in greenhills NSW, and listened to a clarion pro series 10"...and fell in love with it..it sounded sooooooo good. It was better and clearer then EVERY sub there. It had clearer and lower bass then the pioneer 12" subs.
What does everyone else think of them??
Cheers,

I was working there yesterday ........ i was the security guard downstairs at the car show with a 9mm on my hip.
Do NOT buy clarion. You might as well buy throw away car audio. Sony, Alpine or Pioneer. NO clarion. And I guarentee that clarion 10 will not out perform the 12 in the back of my TJ.
And if it sounded better then the pioneer 12's it might be cause the head unit they were showing you the subs on was tuned for the 10's and not the 12's. Subs have to be tuned. You can't just wire them in and expect them to go hard.

the only thing i would ever touch of clarion is
HX-D2 this is 1 of the best cd players out there
alphine decks are like the toys you get from happy meals compared to this deck
apart from that clarion is just like pioneer, sony kenwood...
the cheaper end of the market and how would you put it.......... Meh

hey man, if it sounds good then why not buy it ? just cuz it doesnt have a million dollar price tag, doesnt mean it won't be good,
i think alot of people think that speakers are only as good as their price, which of course is not true lol,
but i know nothing about car audio so lol

I compleatly disagree with what everyones sayin, ive got Clarion and the only problem to date is when i installed it (was in summer) the whole deck got umbarably hot but this was soon fixed with a better ground, the other minor thing is the radio isnt very good but ive found out its due to my sh1ty areal
but sounds wise its great ive heard my m8s kenwood and sony and this spits over them for sound quality
But its all down to what you think..... who gives a sh1t what everyone else has to say if you found them better then all the others then go out and get it.....its all on ur personal ear not others :D

Well you must be the about ONLY person I've heard to have a BAD word to say about Clarion.. sure most people know theres better out there, but saying they are worse then Sony.. I start to REALLY start to doubt u know wot you're on about  I've got a Clarion HU (2nd top model of 2003 range), & it ****es over my old Sony unit, & even some of the Pioneer units I've heard!
As for subs being "Tuned" from the head unit... mmm. Bout the only way you can affect a sub from the HU is to set the low pass.. which is better done from an amp in most cases, & would hardly be called tuning... + the settings on the headunit would be nearly identical between 10" & 12", & that would scarcely affect the sound.
The only real "tuning" is done when designing the enclosure & by setting the amp gains so that for the highest volume you'll set the HU to, the amp won't clip.
Basicly, Clarion ain't CRAP, & if you like the sound & it's within your budget, go ahead.

well said Sandman...tuning from the head unit, wtf  you can do that to a degree with a head unit that has in built crossovers (such as a quality deck like a Clarion :P ), but not with a POS Sony!
Having said that i wouldnt buy anything of Clarions except their head units or some of their amps. For subs i would stay away from clarion, and pioneer for that matter. But if its cheap then it will do the job

When it comes to tuning for a sub, 50% is the box, 40% is the amp and 10% is the headunit, so a 10 and 12inch sub of the same brand and series running off the same amp with boxes made to proper specs should just be hook up and go. Check out Hertz, Boston, Image dynamics entry level gear before you buy Clarion. :D

Haha, no ****ing way mate, dont know where u heard that but RF stuff is all made to last. Their top end stuff is ahnd made and physically tested with bricks on the woffer cones. I know this cause my bro jus went over to melbourne to meet the SPL world record holder from the US and this guy uses all rockford fosgate stuff

:blah: Clarion do offer quality products, from headunits to subs to amps, they are more of a all rounder, but do offer good quality products at a decent price!

Well ACTUALLY  ... my Sony (twas 2nd top of line too :D ) had more features by far... it had seperate High/Low passes for front-rear-Sub, 5 band EQ, EQ visualiser & CD text... only downsides of the Sony gear were the CD mechanism was f*#ked after 18 months, & in combination with the REST of the all SONY system, it sounded like C.R.A.P!
If my Clarion HU has those features, I ain't found them yet.. the main features I looked at were the 4V preouts, & 24bit Digital-Analogue converter... and the cool ability to choose from like 700 colours for the face lighting... I tuned it to exactly match the red glow of my dials!

i just got 2 clarion pro audio 12" subs from autobahn for $260 i brought 2 because it was 1 for 180 or 2 for 260 i will only be using 1 and i will have the other lie in its box till i can afford a better amp they needed to get rid of them so i saved 100 bucks sounds alot better than the 12" kicker EX i use to have

Ain't the world record for SPL like 180+ db set by some germans using a van?
it was in fast fours a while back, huge numbers of subs and amps in a van.

Problem: People act like they know a lot about car audio, when in most cases they dont. If someone has gone and blown a 500W Clarion Sub(what sort of wattage anyways cause there is a lot of wattage crap floating around) in most cases it hasnt been set up right.
Clarion is a respectable brand, for what you pay you probably couldnt find much better. Obviously the brands that people are mentioning will out preform them, they are also double or triple of the price of clarion so what do u expect!
I have had serious involvement in car audio for a few years, probably spent close to $8000 on it in my time. I know what i am talkin about
Cheers
Paul
