Hi all

Apologies in advance for the dumb factor of this question - although I dearly love my Magna I'm not exactly mechanically minded. Maybe I'll get more of a clue if I read through a few thousand posts here :)

So - just got my 2003 Excecutive wagon back from the auto electricians, she's had a new starter installed (after stranding me in Perth 200kms from home on a 38 degree day, woohoo).... everything seems fine but the speed limiter chime is now coming on at about 60kph when it has always been 120 ( it was set at this speed when I bought the car four years ago)

Coincidence or has the mechanic accidentally changed it somehow? I'm hoping it is simple to change it back so that I can do it myself and won't have to return to the workshop feeling like a total dweeb.

I didn't realize until nearly home because was under a 50 speed limit across my little town and anyway I picked her up right on closing time so too late to go back.

Any help / advice would be hugely appreciated! Thanks

i'm pretty sure this happens when the battery has been disconnected. i think it requires holding down one of the buttons to go back into normal trip computer mode then pressing the up/down buttons will let you set it at your desired speed? It's been a while since i've done it so might not be 100% accurate

Yep this is a regular occurance for me. I have mine set to 120 so I know if I'm speeding. disconnect/reconnect the battery and driving along and it goes off at 60, I'm sitting there like wtf I'm not doing 120??

Tap the up/down arrows to adjust accordingly.

The speed alert function is reset (to 60 kim/h) when you disconnect and reconnect the battery. There should be 2 buttons on the dash - probably on the L side of the steering wheel (I am going from memory of our old TF Advance). One button has an Up arrow, the other a downer. If you press both together and hold for a few seconds, it cancels the whole alert thing.

if its the speed alert i have this on my car

there are two buttons to the left of the steering wheel on the surround with up/down labels on them.alternatively if you hold both buttons down you can turn the system off as i found out yesterday.

Got mine set on 60. Just accelerate until it beeps, then back off and the car selects 4th gear. No need to watch the speedo, unless I'm in a 50 zone. Very handy.
Setting it to 120 so you know you are speeding on the open road is not smart. 10KPH over the limit can cost you.

Ah yes, the good old speed alert thingy. I've never used it the whole 9.5 years I've had my Magna. I disconnected the battery the other day and when I went for a drive I was like :wtf: until I realised what it was... :headbange

Might be worth your while to read the owner's handbook to see what other "hidden" features the car has. Like airconditioning, indicators . . . lol

LOL!! I'm not that bad. Just after not using something for nearly 10 years and then suddenly you hear the car beeping when driving down the street you get that worrying feeling. I've just never liked the feature hence why I have it off.
