I have installed a horn switch because my horn is well and truly screwed, and im just wondering can it just be floating around connected to the wires or does it have to be in a fixed position like a normal button on a car. Thanks in advance

I think you just answered your own question. It needs to be fixed in position, like any switch on a car. TMR and Police don't take kindly to dodgy stuff like that.

I don't know if its roadworthy if you place a switch elsewhere, it isn't in NSW that's for sure, but if you do, and it is legal, it needs to be marked horn with a sign.
For all that effort, I'd just replace the faulty parts.
And with the cops with extra powers on illegal modifications, I'd recommend you repair it properly.

Everywhere is saying that it is legal to have the switch horn in my car(well atleast an easy fix for roadworthy) im just looking at selling the car on after this so im not worried about police. Just want roadworthy..

Either way, it won't pass a safety certificate with a dangling switch.
You best check with TMR for a definitive answer as to where exactly it can be mounted.
