Had my new muffler put on 4 days ago, sounded amazing while I went for a 10 minute drive, untill I got out to have a look and realised the back weld had come off, pushing the tip up into the plastic of the rear bumper and melting a nice new hole in it :/ I took it back rather unpleased, and they re-welded it, swearing it wasnt going anywhere...till it fell off again the next day. Suffice to say I was quite rude when I returned it. They seem convinced the Berklee is galvanised, which is why the weld wont hold. Im convinced they just cant weld for shit, as it was a rather messy job in the first place. Moral of the story is...is the Berklee galvanised? Or will they be weakening my muffler when the try and grind it back to re-weld it a third time today?
Also..now on the hunt for a grey VRX rear bumper insert..Joy

FYI you should be chasing them for the repair on the bumper as it was their shoddy workmanship that caused that damage.

Most steel mufflers are galvanised, if they weren't they would develop surface rust within minutes of manufacture. lol Heat of welding should burn it off the surface no problems.
Not stainless steel, is it?

If we're talking about the Berklee BS0655, it's galvanised mild steel, not stainless.

Galvanised mild steel is a dull silver colour, stainless is a lighter silver colour, and has more of a shine to it. Not hard to tell the difference.
Probably didn't use enough heat to get the welding rod to flow, just beaded into daggy blobs. No strength there. Bit like soldering, only at a slightly higher temperature. lol

. . . and the apprentice cops it again . . . lol
Probably someone who needs to go away and practice some H3ctic Welding Skillz on some scrap piping and old mufflers, for sure!
A good one!

As the onus is on the workshop to repair the car due to the damage they caused, you can fully expect them to shell out the cost of a new part from Mitsubishi and paint it if they can't source a suitable second hand replacement. Unless Mitsi doesn't stock that part any more, then is repairing an option?

Not really. Its burned into the plastic. Can hardly see it unless you get down low, but it sticks out like dogs balls to me. Just got it back for the third time...and the twin tips are slightly crooked upon closer inspection. Might just run the car into the front of the shop and make them buy me a new one :/

Lucky its the grey insert and not the actual body. That particular burnt orange was made special for the 380. Dont think I could get any more :/

An irate customer crashing into their shop front is probably covered by their insurance, but I doubt any insurance will apply to your car. So don't.
Any chance of pictures of the damage and welding efforts?

What are you rattling on about? As a fully fledged private business they are obligated to pay an indemnity insurance for exactly this reason. If they stuff up a job , they can claim the cost of repairs through insurance

To help OP. You can still purchase those inserts from Mitsu last I heard - they are just incredibly expensive.
But if they are the ones covering that cost (as they should) then who cares :D
Going out on a complete limb here, but would comprehensive car insurance help in this situation?
As in, if OP has it, can he tell them what happened and get them to deal with it? (make sure you have all mods registered with them first obviously :p)

Fusion burst was also on the TW and not too bad to match
Te insert assy is only avail as a complete item from Mits, is around the $700 mark and from memory they about 4 of them left in stock then will be obsolete
Make them replace it, don't muck around with this mate, is not good enough
Also, gal welds just as well as mild steel

Good luck! And just to clarify, I was saying make a claim against them. That way you just get to book your car in for repairs and your insurance company would worry about chasing up payment. Wouldn't count as a claim on your end because it wouldn't have been an at fault claim.
As I said though, I'm not fully sure if you can actually do that on full comp.
Best of luck getting it fixed up! :)

So you went somewhere they sell Tyres, and do wheel Alignments and exhausts? So either Kmart Tyre and Auto, or Midas?

Privately owned tyre shop in town. Only place that had nothing on at 10am on a Friday. Alarm bells shouldve gone off then :/ I was warned they werent amazing..but seriously, how hard is it to weld a muffler on?

short section redone in front of muffler as the factory pipe had a horrible bend. Some paint flaking away from weld i might have to touch it up again.
