Chris,
The fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump, which sits in the top of the fuel tank under the back seat.
You can't replace the fuel filter by itself, you have to replace the whole fuel pump.
Apparently it's not that hard to do (never done it myself), but a new unit from the stealership is not cheap. About $350 I think.
Second hand ones can be had (Mal has at least one in stock), but you'll still be getting a used/worn fuel filter anyway.
I haven't heard any reports of blocked or stuffed 380 fuel filters.
No problems at all with mine at 141,xxxk, but I use nothing but 98RON which has plenty of fuel system cleaning additives.

I generally keep 1 on the shelf, I have replaced a couple over time but not many at all.
They are from memory $285 for the complete assy, has the pump, swirl pot, sender, filter and is pretty much a complete assy
You can get the filter on its own if you know the correct part number to order HOWEVER the filter on its own is almost (and I mean by only a few $$) as much as the whole assy

They were on the 3rd gen, obviously the 380 is different.

First gen - carburettor = small plastic low pressure filter in the fuel line.
First gen, EFI = cannister on firewall. (?)
Second gen, EFI = cannister on firewall.
Third gen = under car body, passenger side, near back of car.
380 = in fuel tank.
2004 Lancer - haven't found it yet, so it's probably in the tank too.
Just so you know. lol

I remember the service center telling me that the filter got changed on some early models at the major service as a precaution but then after doing a few there was nothing wrong with them so they stopped changing them. What's wrong with yours?

Nothing wrong except I cant remember ever changing it and thought I would do it.
Obviously no need
