Well I've done probably what no one else has before. I've put the standard intake back on the 380. My dad has a VR-X with the standard snorkel and I like the extra refinement his gives. I'm getting too old to appreciate the extra induction noise!
Must say never noticed any difference in the "seat of the pants" in terms of performance. Same with economy. I have the Ralliart for fun anyway.
Must be getting old to want comfort over performance!

I think the galant snorkel has been proven but only a few kw as far as I understand. I just like my car to be quiet as I hit the big 4 0.

And it just gets worse as you get older. lol Every rattle and squeak gets my full attention these days. The "big 4 0" was a lo-o-o-o-ng time ago for me. lol Just replaced both ancillary belt idlers on my TJ as the rear one was getting noisy. Mind, I could only hear it with a stethoscope. lol
As for the Galant snorkel. . . OK it possibly flows better at full throttle. So how many 380 drivers drive full throttle for any length of time and really need a few extra KW? Open road, 220 KPH +?? lol But it does look good, in the eyes of some. lol

Seems to me we should do a poll of the ages of 380 owners. Might get a shock!

I reckon I'm one of the oldest 380 owners on these forums, and guess what, one of my very first mods was to fit the 90mm snorkel!
No doubt in my mind it was and still is a good move.
And yes Max, I give it full throttle much of the time. You don't need to be doing 220km/h for it to make a difference.
Not ready to drive like a grandpa in a Camry just yet.

I found that the Galant intake improved day-to-day driveability - post-installation, the 380 didn't labour going up hills as much as before. I've found it a very useful mod and wouldn't go back.

I'm much closer to 5zero than 4zero and would never even consider changing mine back.
Much better driveability than the standard one....

I'm giving the standard snorkel a run for a while and seeing if it really feels quieter. I did take it for a quick spin after the change and still think my dad's car is quieter. Not sure why. Maybe the leather? It is thought that leather interiors don't absorb sound as well as fabric. Maybe because i am a passenger in it and the driver in mine? However, easy to go back. Standard snorkel is fitted with a bead of silicone around it to seal in enlarged hole. Works well enough.

Does this mean you no longer need your Galant intake? :D

Just PM'd you. As said in the message, not sure if the car is really much quieter so will do some more testing and might go back to the Galant part.
I do a bit of aeromedical work so like things to be quiet on the ground after the noise of helicopter engines!

Well, I must be one of the oldest also as I turn 60 in a few months....and I only started my mods last year. I must be trying to recapture my youth or something, but driving a modified 380 does give me a lot of joy. I have had my Galant CAI for 6 months now but because of all the negative posts about it, I haven't bothered to install it yet. I am still in a quandry as I belived all the hype about them on the internet (OS) and was sucked in...pardon the pun!

Not quite the oldest kevinem but I certainly noticed a big improvement in throttle response after fitting
Not really any other noticeable gains

Don't believe everything you read, take it from those that have fitted it and love it, just do it

Just to add to this topic, I have been a very happy user of the US gallant intake since 2008. In the extended family there are a couple of 380s.
Recently a female family member in her mid 60s had her 380 at a tyre place having new tyres fitted. She needed to run some errands so I let her drive my 380.
On returning my 380, she was amazed how much smoother the throttle response was and the perception of greater power of my 380 verses hers. For the record the two cars are each 380sx trim and are only 5,000km apart in total km travelled.
After our conversation on the subject I was instructed to order the US intake for her. I placed the order with the US supplier on 8 May for the intake and front half of the airbox. The delivery arrived today 14 May, good service for a parcel from Florida.

I'm hitting the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy age this year, ie 42. Perhaps not as old as some of the posts I'm reading here, but I still like to hear some noise from the car - like the Berklee muffler making its noise and the 90mm intake+airbox pulling in air on hard acceleration, which sounds good. Both of these certainly "feel good" if not add a lot of power.

Im a young'un only 23, i figure if youve already bought it you may as well put it on. Ive had 90mm since about a month after i got my car back in 2009. not a big difference, but i figure it cant hurt and looks a bit tougher in the engine bay.

Okay guys,
You've convinced me and as I have already bought it, It would be waste to leave it sitting in my garage collecting dust!

Definately do it. A guy the other day asked if there was supercharger under the hood..it sounds like a vacuum cleaner switching on under the bonnet when you floor it, and theres a lovely little whistle when the revs fall down. Between that and the Berklee my stereo hasnt been on for almost a month..it ruins the engine sounds ;)

I recently installed my 90mm intake and have found the car quieter at rev below 2000rpm.

I've had my '06 380 VRX now for about 3 weeks now. First mods done was fitting a 90mm intake and a set of Kings superlows. I think the intake does improve the responsiveness and fuel economy even if it's only a little. I wouldn't change either and I absolutely would make it my first change if I had to do it again. :)
