if you have been following my alternator thread, you probably know the stuff i have been going thru lately.

as you can hear in the video, there is a weird ticky clocky noise 1 second after i shut down the engine, its there both times i do it, (not the noise at the very end of the video, thats camera focusing)

this noise started after i had the timing belt replaced last week,
also i had the alternator issue due to cracked regulator, which was replaced and fixed the next day.

since i never had the chance to turn the engine off after i left the mechanics (battery went down due to alternator not providing electricity) i do not know whether this noise was there after i left the mechanic, or occurred after the engine stopped while i was driving.

all of that happened really fast.
first my srs light came up, then transmission began kick shifting between gears, then meters went erratic and engine stopped. this all happened in about 15 seconds.
it took me probably only 3 seconds to shift to neutral and pull the car to the roadside.

i wouldnt expect any damage to have occurred, but i dont also know what this noise is and what is it related to.
i only know for sure that it wasnt there before the timing belt fix and alternator issue.

also when i first started the engine before i took the video, there was a tik tik sort of odd sound, i can also hear a faint occasional ticking while engine is running. And a slight whine from the timing belt location that almost feels like the belt is rubbing to the plastic cover. (the mobile mechanic who fixed my alternator also spotted that whine, but decided its nothing to worry about and probably just the new belt settling in, but as a matter of fact, i noticed that before i had the belt done but after the first service by this mech who did my timing belt. )

It's common for these engines to misbehave after the battery has gone dead. If your car stalled, it is probably just learning how to idle again. Same with the shifting, it will get there. Monitor the noise for the next few days and if it changes or gets worse, come back and let us know.

thanks for the reply.
i think i can understand that some noises can occur after power absence or repairs. but this noise is very specific and now i also noticed that there is a weird ticky noise when i turn the ignition key on. it sort of resembles to the squeek you feel from the hinges of a door for a second.
it comes from the centre part top side of the engine, where you got those exhaust pipes. underneath there.

so everytime i turn the ignition on it makes that noise, and everytime i shut the engine off, it makes the longer clocky noise like in the video.
my instinct tells me that something electrical related in there is damaged or not working properly. i dont know what...

My TH makes pretty much the exact same sound when I turn it off. That weird zzzzz clicky sound... I've just always thought it was the way the engine turns off as it's been there ever since I can remember in the 10 years I've owned it.

Oh, that one. I had to turn my volume up. That's a rather odd sound and doesn't sound too good.

yea.. i dont like it either. as soon as engine stops it makes that. when i turn the ignition same part (whatever it is) makes a similar weird noise but much shorter.
bloody youtube is very slow.. video on the way

For starters when you post up a vid dont have your bloody aircon on, the fans make way too much noise, dont rev the motor, let it settle before you start recording as trying to listed to a noise over the net is hard enough

The sound I can here is simply the trans solonoids turning off, is common on many of these cars to hear that, if it is the sound I am hearing

I think it is the ABS solenoids. Mine does the same thing.

It is simply a solenoid. I have never looked into it in great detail but mine does precisely the same thing.

Yes, take out the ABS fuse and the noise will disappear.

i dont think my car has abs though :(
its a bit weird.. it has a cruise control, but its on the left side of the steering wheel, and i think its aftermarket.

just checked the car again.. i dont have a fuse in box 22 i think thats the abs one
and inside that socket there is only 1 pin metal.. no second one

i also never felt abs kick in when i brake.
how can i be sure whether it has it or not ?

BTW my car is year 2000
