Hey guys, I'm partway through a 2000km roadie from vic to brissy.
Last night on the freeway my mileage reading was reset after I topped her up, and was a steady 8.7L/100km to the next fill.

I stopped somewhere and noticed the beginning of a leak in the exhaust roughly around the centre console/handbrake area underneath. Thought ill keep an eye on it and get it looked at in qld.

I noticed over this trip (steady speed, cruise, flat ground, night time, no traffic etc) that the mileage is getting worse. From the mid 8s upto the low 9s and climbing. Each fill I've been recording it, and I watch it closely when driving (average). It's my own lil game haha. And I'm a tightass haha.

Stopped just before and left her running, and sure enough that leak is worse (very noticeable now) than 12hrs ago... And the only change I can put it down to is the leak... Would I be correct in this assumption?

I still have another 1000k to go in a couple of weeks, and want my economy back before then!! Cheers fellas!

I had a similar issue, the weld failed on the cat converter (I think it's the cat converter under the cetnre console?) and the exhaust became really loud. Not sure what the fuel enconomy was like (it failed while driving around on a saturday night, got it fixed on a monday/tuesday morning)

Mine was a quick, easy fix. Dropped it into the exhaust place around 8:30, picked it up around 10am and all up cost me 120 is bucks.

It might be coincidental failure of the oxygen sensor, if that has never been replaced. I don't know enough to suggest whether an exhaust leak downstream of the oxygen sensor could affect its behaviour, but if any extra fresh air could get into the system and past the sensor the effect would be as you've described.

good thinking. any fresher air getting in and running past the sensor would have the ecu pump more fuel as it thinks things are running lean, correct? dreamflyer, is there a strong smell of fuel when the car is stationary? does it smell like it's running richer than usual?

I'm currently having the same problem with my TF Magna.
My fuel consumption is worse than what it was when I bought it. My leak is near the back seats. My mechanic said there's a potential chance of Carbon Monoxide leaking into the cabin and gassing my passengers.
I'm getting a sports catback put on it on Saturday though.
