Pulled up at a set of lights about 5 minutes from home yesterday to see a big puff of smoke come from under my bonnet. OHHH SSSHHHHIIIIITTTTT!!!!! once i got home i popped the bonnet to see smoke pissing out from the back of the engine bay. I shut her down and as i did i saw a nice stream of oil up my driveway, so i look underneath to see a huge puddle of oil.
Now it is definatly gearbox oil that i am sure of. For the people that don't know its a TS V6 manual. So any ideas what could of caused it? before i noticed the smoke like 10 minutes before i notice a small light and very unusual clunk that i felt through the peddles. It wasn't consistant and only happened 4-5 times, 1 of the times for a few seconds then stopped. It still selected all gears without a problem, no whyning noise and no loss of power. I jacked it up for a look and i couldn't see where the oil was coming from, it was just splatered everywhere.
The car has done a whisker under 300,000kms so its due for a *** up like this. Any ideas what has happened???

well get under the bonnet and under the car and look for where the leak is coming from, is it just a loose drain bung or blown gasket, or is it a cracked housing, from what you said it sounded like something came loose and picked up in the g'box and may have punched a hole in the side of the housing. could also be a cv joint that has come part way out of the diff.

Do I hear a domestic brewing....
Not knowing Magna manual box - can u check oil levels? Wash/wipe the mess and check if more is leaking and if u can see where it comes from. Eliminate all other oil/fluid leaks by checking engine oils, power steering fluid etc stuff.
Sounds pretty nasty....!
what an insult.

yeah, the easiest way, if you can't find it visually first, is to totally de oil/grease the bugger and find out where the leak is!!
you seem pretty certain that its the gearbox and that you have a small clunk happening, it may also be the diff (its in (nearly) the gearbox anyway). I had a small clunk in mine (at certain speeds) and it turned out to be a bearing, but that didnt cause it to spurt oil everywhere!
good luck with it!

Ok my name is now cleared from any responsibility since I didnt **** around doing burnouts in the car...
Apparently the diff **** itself and destroyed the housing.. He now needs a new gear box and clutch in case anyone wanted to know..
Looks like I get to be taxi for a few more days atleast

Ok car is back so i save mysti from being my taxi, i think i'm now her taxi for tomorrow night neway.
Ok the internal diff gears (forget what they're called) **** themselves. This is due to my horrible driving seen by all at krispy kreme's but mainly because of the distance the car has travelled so it all added up to it ****ing up. It needed a replacement gearbox so i got a 2nd hand 1 with warrenty, new clutch and pressure plate, had the flywheel re machined and a new clutch master cylinder because that was leaking as well.
The total cost came to $1488, labour was $400 which is reasonable. Due to this cost i do not think i will be able to make MM04 because i still need to finish a few mods before Auto Salon which is the week after MM04.
What fun, but i still blame mysti because she stalled heaps while trying to drive my car hehe

Not good to hear bro. My mag S****ed itself at a set of lights couple of weeks ago. Guys next to me thought i wanted to drag but it was just me revving slightly to get it into gear. Now everyone knows you can drive a car without a clutch if you know how to and this got me away from princes HWY near Cronulla. Turned out to be one of the pressure springs on the clutch detached itslef and had an argument with the flywheel.....flwheel 1 pressure spring 0. So took into Pete at Carline and he had the flywheel machined and put in a 5 point RPM (not RPW) clutch for $800. So she runs very good now!!
Good to hear your back on the road again TZA
