Hi everyone,

I'm new here, please be nice... I'm repairing (rebuilding!) by sister's TM, and I'm in a bit of a bind...

I wasn't the one who took it apart, and so of course I have no idea where anything goes back... It hasn't been too bad so far - I've gotten the new head in, the manifolds back on, and the carby back in... Radiator, fans and such too... Haynes manual has been a real help.

The only thing left is to hook back up the carby hoses... And that's where I run into problems - I don't know where the hoses go! The Haynes doesn't really have a good picture of the hoses, and although I can reasonably figure out which are the water vs fuel hoses, I don't know which are the inlet and outlet points on the carby...
Also, this is the leaded model TM, with a mechanical fuel pump, which I believe has a carby with two fuel inlets, and one outlet (or so I guess from the hoses), but the only photo I can find in the forum seems to have only one inlet hose...

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good place to find out the locations of the hoses...
(Either that, or if anyone has a carby'd TM with the airbox off, and can take some decent photos of the hoses and where they lead to, I'd really appreciate it.)

Thanks!

Cheers.

take some detailed pics of it, ill tell you which goes to where, carbis are fairly simple once you know what the different parts do.

WOOHOO! another Leaded TM Magna!! it'll make my day if you tell me that you DONT have powersteering... cos then i know that there's some else who has to suffer the worst turning circle without powersteering :bowrofl: ...

I would take pics of my carby... but i think somethings wrong with it... sometime theres heaps of induction noise... like a hose is disconnected... and i get the crappiest fuel economy (last tank was 240km... and that's off premium - worse off normal unleaded...), my car surges and theres a major dead spot in the accelerator... either something aint connected right, or my carby needs to be reconditioned. I've always been paranoid about the hoses to the carby since I got my new motor... cos they had to put a ULP distributor in that has two vacuum ports on it... and I haven't got a clue where/how the mechanic added extra hoses... the advance unit didn't work until I switched the two hoses on the distributor... the vacuum one was connected to the wrong port:rant:... so I wouldn't wanna take pictures of my carby cos I dont think it's right

Btw, i run my car off ULP/Premium even though it's leaded... my new motor has an unleaded head - not that the motor actually cares what fuel.

I dont have power steering either if it makes U feel better.
No P/S + mags + little sports steering wheel + 4.1 turns lock to lock = 3Point turn hell.

i think its abit of work. getting the power steering bottle and all the lines is easy... then u need to put in the new steering rack i think it is from a car with power steering. its more work than u think it is. i never really looked into doing this... i just looked at a car with power steering at the wreckers for like 5 mins and that was it. just means that on my next car ill enjoy it even more wen there is power steering.

yep its alot of work and time to do and u defently need the steerin rack from a car with p/s as there not as heavy
correct me if im wrong bill (bcx7) but im sure he got quoted $1000 for the job
so im lucky the elantes came stock with it cos i sure wouldnt be paying that
but even with p/s the STUPID turning circle deems it any way
i would seriouly see a kit selling MILLONS made for magnas that improved the hidious turning circle ( hence my signature)

Yep, $1000 for everything + installation. i've got my hands on a pump, cooler and bottle (so it should work out to be less than $1000)... all I need is the rack + steering column.

I was gonna take the rack of this wreck i have here and put it on mine... but the steering column is also different (the pinion is different) and the centre member has to come off to get the rack in and out. Something i don't really wanna take off seeing as the engine mounts are on there. then after you get the rack in, wheel alignment and all the fun that goes with trying to put the rack back on the right spot...

I don't think so ... Nearest I can tell, there's no fuel pump in that diagram. From memory, the TN's (and unleaded TM's) have an electronic fuel pump in the tank, while the leaded TM's have the mechanical fuel pump, or something like that. I'll have to verify it when I get home on Friday...

Yeah, but it's the Elite - so yes, it's got power steering... Not that it helps when it doesn't go anywhere...
From the sounds of it, you are now where I was this time last year... Flat spot in accelerator, surging, lacking power...
So far I'm up to a new fuel filter, overhauled carby, reco transmission, replaced head, and replaced carby in that order... And I've discovered that the exhaust has a hole...

take some detailed pics of it
Thanks, willdo - as soon as I get home on friday...

your right, leaded magnas have an mechanical fuel pump
