G'day guys.

So I have a couple of holes in my stock exhaust system. The note literally sounds like a prolonged fart.
Now that I've got some cash saved up (I'm a uni student) I'm looking to get a catback system for my Solara (Manual).

I had a chat to one of the mechanics at my local K-mart Tyre & Auto about it. Apparently he used to fit exhausts to Magna's and said they sound great. He recommended that I fit a hot-dog resonator and a sports muffler. He didn't suggest any particular brand, but he dropped a few names like Redback, Magnaflow etc.

I'm just curious to hear what other people have put on their Magna's and what they sound like. I don't think I've ever heard a Magna IRL with a custom exhaust on it!

One of my mates (who is going to help me fit it all) told me to steer clear of Redback exhausts. He reckons they sound like s#!t.

I've got a pretty flexible budget, but I don't want to be spending too much.

If anyone has any suggestions, stories or what not that they'd like to share, please reply!

Cheers!

Lukey is tried and tested. Everyone loves them. I have a redback and I love it to death but most people want to stick a rake through it. The sound is an acquired taste.

How loud do you want it? if you want it decently loud stay away from the lukey and redback replacments and get a small straight through muffler, if you want it quiet but with a bit of a grumble stock with the lukey or redback, they are good quality units.

When I had my TJ's exhaust replaced, there was a generic catback replacement that the exhaust store fitted. I just added my choice of rear muffler. I would suggest a Lukey. Would be the cheapest and easiest way to get a quiet but nice sounding exhaust while fixing your problems.

I haven't had much to do with the Redback catbacks but they seem a viable option.

Apart from the rear muffler, the stock exhaust is generally not a restriction so there's no need for a fancy custom catback or anything like that.

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna pop into Performance Exhaust in Ringwood tomorrow and have a chat with them.
I'll see what they think about Lukey, Redback etc.

The only reason they suggested a resonator was to cut out drone.
I don't want it too loud (within legal dB limit). I just want it to sound fantastic! I'm not a bloody drongo with a VS Commodore...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Gotta love this website!

Okay so I've gone for a Redback Catback system. Will have it all installed on Saturday. So keen to give it a spin!

UPDATE:
I've had the redback catback installed. Very happy with the sound! It sounds very beefy. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for!
Was hoping to fit a dual 2.5" Dump Tail Pipe, however there wasn't enough room for it. Ended up fitting a 2.5" Single Dump Pipe.
I'm hoping to upload a video of it by tonight!
