Hi everyone, think this is my first post. Been a browser for a while. I've got a few questions for you mitsi gurus. I do love the 6g series, am planning on a mid engined custom build and am wanting a v6 capable of big turbo power. Trouble is I want max power from smallest size possible. So am wanting to run sohc 24 valve heads rather than the more power choice of dohc or dohc mivec. But in saying that I also like the idea of a 72 over a 74/75 due to its shorter block and its availability to rev better ( due to its shorter stroke and better rod/stroke ratio). The only problem with this choice is that all sohc 72 engines have 2 bolt mains, vs 72 dohc, 74/75 4 bolt mains. So a big question for you gurus is about 2 bolt vs 4. I have heard of even 74/75 4 bolt girdles lifting under high power causing bearing failure. So I think there is no chance of high power through a 2 bolt mains block!! But then I think of all those other high powered blocks like hondas j32, nissans vg series and all those others that have huge power extracted from them and only have basic 2 bolt caps, some don't even have girdles. So what's the go? Do you think a sohc 6g72 with forged internals and particular attension payed towards the mains (arp studs etc), would stand upto 500hp?
Any advice would be a great help.
Cheers.

All blocks and cranks are different. 4 bolt mains and girdle setups were aimed at deadening destructive crank vibrations and flex in some v6 and v8 engines at certain revs, while other manufactures went for crankcase stiffening with extra ribs and heavier, shorter crankshafts. 500 hp, hit the right resonance frequency, and bye bye bearings.

Riiiggghhhtt.......

Op, chat to dr ego on the forums, he is running a 500hp + set up, 3.0l boosted. Was done by Dallas at street torque in Alice springs.

Best to chat to the few who know and have done this as most have only read and dreamt about this sort of set up.

Yep. Go for it. Worry about reliability problems later. lol
