I was wondering if anyone has ever investigated it?
So the scenario is - I get in my car and I forget to double click the remote to open the passenger doors. Keys are already in the ignition so the remote wont work. I can either lean over or lock and unlock my door. I dislike both options and I was wondering if anyone knows what would be involved in installing a switch. I know the toyotas have a switch you can lock and unlock all the doors with. Id be happy with one that simply unlocks.

Simple to do. C/locking is negative triggered which makes it easy. Would take no more than 30 mins to install.

So a wire to the central locking, past a switch (spring loaded to auto reopen circuit) and then to ground and bobs my uncle?

Something like that. Make it nice and tidy somewhere close, but not too conspicious.

All I use to do was use the lock switch on the drivers door, lock then unlock and it unlocks the rest.
Now, all I did was move the wire on the BEM over one pin to the port used for the wagons and it unlocks all doors when I press the unlock on the remote.

On the 2nd gens there is a central locking relay behind the drivers side kick panel, poking the wires going into it with a grounded circuit tester will find one that makes the doors lock and another that makes them unlock.
If the locking system is like the 2nd gen ones I would use a self returning rocker switch with a common ground signal going to wires spliced either the lock or unlock wire of the central locking relay.
Rocker switches are usually a standard size so you could put it into an unused switch space on your dash where it looks tidy.

I have some nice narva switches that blend in pretty nicely behind my gearstick. Definitely wouldnt want anything that would stick out like a sore thumb! Funny... my first car has a missile switch :|
I too will lock my door and then unlock it. Not the greatest hassle! Too many times though, the passenger will hear the locks go and instantly attempt to open the door. Of course this is a split second before I bring the switch to the unlock position and their door remains locked. I definitely want a switch!
I would like to keep the safety function though. I like adding features to my car, not deleting.
I will definitely look into the relay! Sounds like a good option if it applies to a 3rd gen :)
