I just picked up my car fron the exhaust shop..
I supplied a rear muffler a centre muffler and a high flow cat.
I had 2 1/2 inch pipework done in mild steel to connect it all up and got charged $900....
supposedly 5.5 hrs labour plus pipe and all the bends....

Too much or reasonable??? I was expecting $700 max...

Was it mandrel bends?

Its a bit more then I would expect if it is press bent. Should have been around 500 press bent

I was given an estimate of $500 to fit HM headers - I did it myself in 4 hours, so that's $125 / hour. I'm worth every penny. :)

$900 does seem a bit steep, though.

This is without headers installed... would have been an extra $400 to fit them. So i figured i would just leave that until i do my 3.8 conversion....
I was quoted around $700 but took a couple hours longer than they thought... the quote however was only an estimate and not written as a proper quote... so was kinda stuck with no option but to pay the $900...

seems very steep i paid 600 for my exhaust which they supplied the high flow cat ,hotdog , sports muffler and pipes took 2 hours the only thing i supplied was the tip as the quoted 100 for one so i went to super cheap and got the same one for 20

Its mandrel bent so its still a tiny bit steep but atleast you have a good flowing exhaust

i did forget to mention that although my exhaust as made from prefabricated bends it was tig welded which adds to cost...

there you go. Does it look like good work?
There is sometimes the whole "you get what you pay for" aspect :)

It's not the cheapest but it's certainly not silly money either.

I believe someone who knows what they are doing should be able to give a quote (verbal or not) that is close enough to the mark, and a system like this isn't that complicated.

This quote was out $200, nearly 30%, I wouldn't be happy about that.

However at least you have a good flowing system, hopefully with quality workmanship.

I'm paying $200 to fit my exhaust, it's a bolt on full mandrel bent system for my TS

But I paid $337 for the exhaust, $198 for muffler $468 for extractors... But my mufflers lukey and my extractors are hurricanes, bit more expensive.

$900 seems steep for labour, last time my ke had a rusted pipe and a hole in the muffler they charged me $268 with labour and all new muffler and rear exhaust... Err forget what they call it, the part that goes from the forward muffler to the rear... That was at a place off the Pacific highway in Queensland, some cheap exhaust place, they did good work though.

I got Exhaust Plus in Stepney, Adelaide to fit the HM Headers for $100 and was done in less then an hour all up, including idling time to bake the ceramic coating.
Also, Maat, $900 is a bit much even if tig welding was done. Should be around $100-$110/hr mark

Sorry but are you sure they actually fitted them? That amount of time sounds rediculous.

Yes. I was there waiting and yes they are on the car (I have removed the heat shields).

I paid $550 for mine about 4 yrs ago, that was 2 1/2" Mandrel bent from the cat back, including a Lukey and Resonator.
So, if you supplied some parts and they charged you that much, I think it is quite steep. I would look into whether they charged you for the parts you supplied.

work is great the only parts cost is pipe and flanges but there is 5.5 hrs of labour. exhaust seems to perform well and sounds good.

Sorry if i offend......Not sure what post is to achieve???

Happy with the work....ok fair enough.
Unhappy with the cost ... but it is still worth it to me???

Happy or not with the results, I would not be happy with a job $200 over the quoted price of $700.
A contract is a contract, verbal or written, and a verbal quote of $700 is what you gave your car to them on the basis of. Not $900.
However if you are happy to pay the $900 then ok, do that?

Who did the work??
