Hi All! First time poster, long time reader here.

I have a TH Magna (actually a KH Verada) wagon which does not have a rear sway bar fitted from factory. I'd like to fit one because I'm moving house to the Adelaide Hills and quite frankly my Verada understeers so much it's almost dangerous! I need a rear sway bar for safety sake.

I'm aware that later Magnas (TJ/KJ onwards) do have a factory 19mm bar, and it is fitted via some holes pre-drilled into on the rear trailing arms of the suspension. My car does not have these holes pre-drilled so I cannot fit a factory 19mm bar.

From everything I read, including on this forum, the 22mm Whiteline rear sway bar (part BMR67) is the best bar to fit to the rear of a Magna Wagon, and the bonus is that it doesn't use the factory mounts.

Here's a link to a page of a guy who fitted one - a really neat job!
http://martybugs.net/magna/swaybar.cgi

Trouble is, Whiteline no longer make these bars anymore so I can't purchase it from them. Whiteline very kindly put me onto another sway bar manufacturer, but they advised me that their rear sway bar uses the factory mounts on the trailing arms, which is something I don't have.

As you can see, I'm a little stuck now.

Does anyone know of anybody selling a second hand BMR67 Whiteline bar?
OR
Does anyone know of a manufacturer that can make a copy of BMR67 bar, or a bar that does not use factory trailing arm mounts?

Thank you!

You could always go to a wreckers and get the arms off a KJ wreck and bar and fit that.
That way, you have factory fitment

That is something I'll consider, probably as a last resort, because if I was to do that I'd probably upgrade all my bushes at the same time and it would turn into quite a project ha!

When was the last time your bushes got checked?
Could be they are the reason you feel the car understeers alot. Would also pay to check your shocks aswell. They could be well past there use by date.

I've got new springs and shockers about 30,000kms ago, so I think they're ok. The bushes are probably reasonably worn, and being factory they'd be rubber not nolathane. I agree, that if I was to upgrade the trailing arms to TJ model, I should do the bushes just because it makes sense to do them simultaneously. I currently suspect my Verada handles like a barge because it has a big fat factory sway bar on the front, and nothing on the rear, which means all cornering forces go to the front steering wheels LOL!
Fingers crossed a Whiteline bar pops up for me though.....

You could try Mako Swaybars?

They do a rear bar for the wagon still;
http://www.mako.com.au/ibm_docs/mako/product_images/SignatureCatalogue.pdf

I have one of their bars on my AWD. Paint job sucks, but aside from that its a good product. Not sure about the wagon, but I got all the mounting gear with my bar. Aside from sway bar links anyway of course. Was a little pricey - $350. I'd give them a call to be sure you get all the mounting gear first.

Meanwhile, try shaving off understeer as much as you can through other ways. Tyres and/tyre pressures and so on.

I believe the sportswagons came out with a factory rear swaybar. Buy the whole k frame.

If you drop the whole rear k frame on yours and bin it, you could replace all the bushings there whilst it's on the ground.

I just dropped Mako an email, asking whether their bar was sold as a "replacement" or a "kit". I hope to hear from them soon.

I haven't discounted buying another K-frame or trailing arms yet, but i'm trying to eliminate all other possibilities first as it would be a biiiig job!

Thanks guys, hopefully i'll have some success /*fingers crossed*

Just in case anyone reads this thread again, I got my nrew rear sway by from MAKO, and got under my car to "see" how it would fit, and guess what?! Despite not having a factory sway bay, and despite thinking I'd need to replace my trailing arms in order to fit a "replacement factory bar" from MAKO, I discovered that my trailing arms had the mounting holes PRE-DRILLED!! Epic win!! So bolted it straight up, and can't believe I didn't do this earlier, the car handles brilliantly now, with amazing turn-in, and midcorner grip, and has no understeer at all now :)

Hi mate,

Do you mind if I ask how much it cost?

Also this was 22mm? And although you didn't need an aftermarket mounting kit did did it come with one?
