Sup guys,

Something very odd happened to me today as I left dinner with my mates.

I was driving out of the carpark and the "TCL Off" light came on. I pressed the button thinking maybe I knocked it and that wasn't it... It just remained on... 30 seconds later the engine light turned on too.

I stopped and pulled over, checked under the hood for any obvious problems... Not that I could see...

Started the car again and it didn't happen again...

Just wondering if this might come back or if anyone knows what it might have been?

I've done some reading and it may be the TCL solonoid or the alternator... But I dunno. :(

This is common. It means the vacuum valves on the firewall are starting to fail

You can drive no probs with this fault.

Usually it happens on a really hot day on a long drive.

Replace the traction control solenoid and vacuum valves. Cheap, quick job then happy days for another 150,000km.

.....or the TPS swith for the TCL has failed or the Vac lines have a leak just to name a few.

James, before you waste money on things you need to get the car scanned to get an exact issue diagnosis. Most likely is the solonoid BUT can also be a few other things

I had this, replaced the solenoids and the problem persisted, though MUCH less frequently and eventually stopped completely. was around the end of summer that it stopped completely so the 'hot day' part seems plausible as a possible reason(though what causes a hot day to trigger it i have no idea)

If you have washed engine that could cause a problem moisture in plugs underneath solenoids... happen to me twice here every time when I high pressure cleaned underneath bonnet...

Damn, I'll have to take the car to a mechanic.

Wouldn't happen to know anyone, would you? lol

I've had this problem in the past (unlike others in cooler weather) & was recording fault code 71. It stopped happening for months then reappeared once. Having read some advice from Madmagna, I ran the electrical connection to the solenoid (high on the left of the firewall) in & out a few times. Don't know whether I fixed a poor connection but it hasn't happened since.
