Hay guys

How hard is it to swap cams over on our 3 gens. I know u have to remove manifold rocket covers water housing distributor timing covers battery. Is there anything else? How do u actually remove the camshaft after u have done all that? Do I have to worry about setting the timing or putting camshaft in a certain way?

Cheers kurt

Can I ask why? You just had cams installed.

There's a little bit off an issue with my cams and lobe wear. I'm just gonna put my stock cams back in for now until my upgrade. He said its very rare but has seen a couple of magna cams go soft. Abit unlucky. Can anyone give me some kinda write up on how to swap the cams over I really don't wanna spend money on putting the standard cams bak in.?

Timing belt comes off. Water pipes etc come off and the camshaft is slid out through the gearbox side of the motor.

1. Remove timing belt
2. Remove cam gears
3. Remove water pipe assy
4. Remove distributor
5. Remove cam cap
6. Remove intake/rocker covers
7. Remove rocker gear
8. Gently slide out the back of engine (gearbox side) rotating when needed

Hi Kurt,
Sent you pm, because my cams have been in for a year and a half (over 20,000km) with no apparent issue?

Just loosen the tensioner and the belt will come loose. No special tools required to get the camshafts out.

One thing, lock the timing belt tensioner before you undo the tensioner pulley, saves you having to compress it again later and also saves you having the tensioner being damaged.

Make sure everything is on TDC, line up ALL marks, if the cam marks are at the bottom you need to rotate the motor another 360 deg to line them up. Take note when you remove the pulleys of where approx the locating pins are in relation to the head so you know where to line up the other cams.

Do not tighten down the rocker gear until the belt is back on, thrust cap is back in the front head and dist is in the rear head so as to ensure that the cams are located correctly.

Make sure you know what you're doing Kurt. Keep your workshop manual handy because this is a nightmare if you get stuck. Took me 10 hours with the engine still in the car.
