Hi guys I need new bump stops for my TE, I have boge shocks and King lows, but the bump stops are rooted and dust covers split.
Wheres the best place to get new ones? Ive heard of people having the cut some down whats the reason for that and how do you know how much to cut them down by?
Hey bud, autobarn sell them if you need them in a rush.
As for cutting them, i think thats mainly on superlow's. However, i have kings SL with new bump stops in kyb and they feel fine. Certainly a mucg nicer ride than the pedders i had.

I picked up a set of KYB ones from Burson for $30. You can get them off rockauto for much cheaper but it'll only be worth doing if you need to buy other things because postage starts from around $60.
I've got King Springs Lows and I still needed to chop a bit off the top of the bumpstop so the strut top would fit over properly. Not a big deal.

Thanks for the info bud I picked a set of KYB bump stops with boots on the weekend, Ive heard of people cutting them but doing it so they weren't "riding on the bump stop" with lows I assume this wont be a problem, id like to not have to cut them at all however, but If I do, a hacksaw will be fine?
How much do you think you had to cut off?

When I overhauled my KYB/Kings combo to install on the AWD I cut down the bump rubbers. Used a Stanley knife/box cutter. Took 30mm off all four bump rubbers. Not sure if that's the right amount to be cutting off though... it's just what I did.

To cut the bumpstops I used a standard kitchen knife! It's pretty easy to cut. The rubber isn't that strong.
I probably cut off about 2cm's. You'll see how much you need to cut when you're trying to put the strut assembly back together. The bumpstop is too long and prevents the strut top from being able to properly be tightened onto the strut.

No issues with lows, no need to cut

Thanks Mal, I just put them in and didnt need to cut them what so ever.
I did have other issues though, It my first time pulling a strut out of a car and removing the spring, so I got myself some spring compressors and my god were they are pain in the ass. I obviously did need them for a job but I they are really fickle, the first strut took a long time to get the hang of the compressors and I was actually using a rattle gun but then on one side the compressors kept rubbing against the spring so I couldnt get my socket off. I finally found a good method was to use the rattle gun on one side and just use a ring spanner on the other, it was much easier to control how the spring sat.
This is what they did look like.

Hello remnants of bump stops.

No kidding here, left over of old bump stop, vs brand new.

Passenger side bump stop was better but not great.

Now a question, when I was fitting the passenger side on I put it all back together and the spring was nice and tight (well i believe it was) but on one side the coil was actually sitting on the edge of the strut, so I removed the whole strut from the car, gave the spring a few good taps with a rubber mallet and it seated in better, took it for a quick 5 minute drive and it feels alright, should I leave it at that?
But wow what an improvement these bump stops made, maybe I can actually get the full benefit out of these Boge's now.
