I just got a new"ish" JVC KWR400.
The loom for the unit is tad bit confusing as it doesn't have all the wires labeled.
Plus there are some wires that I can't figure out in the 380 (series 2 ES) what they are for.
I referred to the page (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89304) in the forum which outlines the headunit wiring.

Is there any specific guide out there that I haven't found via google search which is more specific.

If I am getting the job done from the "pro-installation shops", how much would be a reasonable price?
(Though I would like to do it myself personally).

Just buy aerpro harness adapters from autobarn or sca, way easier... You need the mitsubishi to iso harness and then the iso to JVC harness to make it plug and play. They cost like $15 each at supercheap auto.

Or do what I did and just buy the mitsubishi to iso harness, cut the iso plug off and join the wires to the harness supplied with the head unit so you dont have to massacre the factory wires.

I just installed a JVC KD-R90BT into my 3rd gen magna. Easiest option is the aerpro harness adapters as JoshSX mentioned, though if you go down that track, just double check the wires on the JVC > ISO harness with the plug that comes with the headunit. Mine had the speakers backwards so my fronts and backs were swapped around, I had to repin the plug to fix.

I had the same front=back harness problem as cjsimmons so I think it must be a common occurrence with the aeropro jvc harnesses

Thanks guys, the harness worked like a charm !
Though there is some gap on the left side, /w the facia and the headunit. :(

Also, out of curiosity the small white connector had to be left unconnected as there is no place for it to be connected on JVC unit.

It was connected in the stock headunit.

Do I need to be worried about it?

I thought it was the factory phone car kit connection and this is the mute lead to mute the music when a call comes in.

One last question, do I need to connect any wires (there's were few wires in the harness that weren't connected to anything) so that the brightness changes automatically when I switch on the headlight?

The orange one from memory from the HU is the one you need for illumination. Just connect it up and you should be good to go.

Old thread I know, but documenting to save others in future...

Regarding the front / rear speaker wiring issues reported by cjsimmons & others - I believe the issue here is the APP8JVC2 vs APP8JVC3 harness. I bought an APP8JVC2 for my KD-R90BT based on the details on the webstore I purchased from, and had hit this front / rear swapped over issue. Contacted aerpro who said the APP8JVC3 is the right harness for this unit, not the APP8JVC2. Only differences between these harnesses are swapping of the front/rear speakers, plus the APP8JVC3 has wiring to support steering wheel mounted controls.

Turned out the online store had the wrong head units listed against that harness. They've kindly sent out an APP8JVC3 replacement free of change when I pointed out the error.
