I know this is not possible, but if anyone knows of a good reliable mechanic who knows magnas, in Adelaide, I'd be grateful to find out their name. Thanks

Sorry you can't have mal, he's ours, we own him, he's our bitch to fix our cars!
I'm sure if you look around on a few sites... Umm I seem to recall that there was actually a site that listed mechanics and their specialties (what their most experienced in) I'll find it and give you it.
As for getting a mal equivelant, theres a reason that people from all over Australia come to him, there's not many specialty Mitsubishi auto part shops or wreckers or repairers around... Infact there's none.
He's a one of a kind simply because there's not many people who adore the diamond badge as much as we do at Amc, so naturally there's not gonna be many people thinking you can make money out of them.

Not sure if he likes being called your bitch but lets see.
There are 3 Mitsubishi specialists in Sydney, but if you find a dealership who will take you on in a fair and reasonable way then yeah sure. Just watch out for the dealerships that get the apprentices to do all the work.
Try mitsibits at londsale.

Isn't Mal ex Adelaide? We should petition for him to return. Met Mal a long time ago in Mawson Lakes when he had that greenish KR Verada.

MRT Performance in Rhodes are fantastic. Mostly evo based, they know their mitsi's inside out. Log book servicing has always been spot on from all reports.
Meek Automotive in Seven Hills love working on the mitsu 6's although I wouldn't take your car there for a log book, but anything major they handle with ease.
North Shore Mitsubishi in Artarmon, although they are a dealership, there are blokes working in the service department that are ex-tonsley and have worked with magnas since the TM.

Rhodes, Sevenhills, Artamon!! I don't know these Adelaide suburbs. I'd love to find someone at Marion or Edwardstown.

Yeah, funny, guys!
Only problem is, I checked my bank account this morning, and I don't need to work for money ever again! So there!
And to quote myself: "I suppose DIY is out of the question?"
Seriously, look around for a good mechanic. Check out their workshops, and see if someone is working on a Magna - you might be on a winner!

Check the white pages, yellow pages etc.
Google worth a try too.

Might be worth a few phone calls, if you have a specific job in mind. Ask for a quote perhaps?
Seriously cooper, mitsibits in lonsdale is not that far from you. Heck I drove all the way from Mawson Lakes to them to get the cams fitted and that took me 45 minutes. They are only 25 minutes from Mile End so should only be around 15 to 20 minutes from Marion/Edwardstown.

I was taking my car to a mechanic in Wright Street in Adelaide (cos I work in the city) but not happy with last results....

Most small workshops are well hidden in the back streets of a lot of Adelaide's suburbs, you wouldn't notice them even if you drive by them, and they don't advertise. So do your research, ok?
Try one out with an oil and filter change (or similar) to get an idea of the bloke's attitude, skillz and costs. Trial and error.
While there, ask about more complex jobs. If he can't do it, he will know someone who can.
PS I found a good local workshop by asking stupid questions at the local parts counter, like "OK, you sold me new ball joints, now who can press them in for me?". The answer I got was "The bloke around the corner". Really! Yep, went round there, did the job real quick and cheap.

What do you need done to your car? A Magna is a very common car. If you're just after routine servicing, find a mechanic who has a good reputation generally and stick to them.
If you need something serious (e.g. manual conversion, engine swap) Melbourne isn't that far a drive from Adelaide.

Very close, as with a few others in the general area....Has anyone here used them before?
I was hoping for a recommended mechanic with proven good reputation if possible. My last mechanic was recommended to me by a work collegue, and was good for a couple of years, just last service I wasn't happy about so looking for another.....

Dealership...
Not in my experience. Dealers are good for real basic or the sort of "common" shit as they know the cars common work, failures, servicing etc. - they are perfect for that, if a little expensive.
However, Mal can deal with out of the norm things that we do on AMC. Loom swaps, conversions, swapping stuff in, upgrading, blah blah blah - I would not trust a dealer with any of that sort of thing, they will not know the cars quite well enough for that. Plus, forget about any modifications. I sent mine in to dealer to check knocking noise and they said my suspension was completely broken as it looked like it could be moved on the car. Not only were they entirely wrong diagnosing the issue as the coilovers were not broken and it worked out to be user error (I had not tightened a locking collar enough and it came loose, that was all, they should have immediately recognised that, it is a 2 second fix with the wheel off) but I got the distinct impression from the head mechanic that he didn't even understand what coilovers are, which is mind boggling. I am not at all saying I would expect them to work on/repair coilovers, but I would damn well expect them to have at least heard of the suspension type and recognise them. Point is, Mal is an experienced, specialist mechanic, I would place him well above a dealer. Additionally, dealers are not always entirely honest with you, although this will vary shop to shop, they obviously deal mostly with the clueless. And you best hope you don't get an apprentice or someone who takes your car on a joyride, I have seem some cars gunning it out of dealerships for their on road post work tests. Fuel economy through the roof when you get it back sorta driving.
After getting burnt by Eliz Mitsubishi last service (Long story short they were downright dishonest and I wasted my money) from now on, I will be taking my car to Driven Motorsport. He deals with a lot of Mitsubishi work, though mostly Lancer Evo's, Legnums, Galants etc. - generally more high end cars tend to be his customers. His reputation as far as I have seen is terrific and while he won't have the Magna specific knowledge Mal has, given his general Mitsi experience I have faith he'd be able to handle a fair bit of work you might want done. Otherwise, the other suggestion on here for Mitsibits sound good.

the other issue is that a dealer has a higher cost structure than a small 1-man operation, so they must charge more.

+ 1 for Jon at driven motorsport. Very decent prices and he worked at a mitsubishi dealership for years so he knows his magnas.

service, changed timing belt tensioner (I supplied it), machined front discs, new pads, $519 all up. Car now runs much better. And they adjusted the handbrake (which was needed) even tho' I forgot to ask. last time I asked the dealer to do this, they said "that's 15 min extra labor charge".

Barry, if you are in Blacktown you should head straight to Arndell Park which is the suburb right next to you. My mechanic there has been servicing my Magna for the last 10 plus years. If you need his contacts, inbox me.
