After the service on my gf's 98 Magna came to $250, the guy then went and told her it needs all new belts soon, which he said he could do for another $250.. Now i found a guy selling timing belts (which the guy said is the most expensive of the belts) which fits the following cars, my question is, would it fit a 98 Magna? as its still a 3 litre too :doubt:

also, is $250 a good price to change over all of the belts?? he said that some might not need changing but he will check as he is taking them off.. and are timing belts that expensive? would it be worth buying the one mentioned above if it does fit a 98 magna cos its only $20 including postage..

First of all there is no way in all earth that $20.00 is right for a timing belt, either you have been mis quoted and I would say grab as many as you can at that price or there has been a mis understanding somewhere.
I assume you are takling 3.0v6, the 3.5 is longer, the TR/S is shorter and not as wide.
The mechanic to quote $250.00 including belt is a great price as mitsu will charge you somewhere in the area of 600+ dollars.
It is not an easy job, unless you have done it several times and there are special tools reqd.
Do not get mixed up with the other belts,
Aircon/altinaror belt
Power steering belt.
The timing belt is under the black covers on the rh side of the enging and can not be seen without the removal of the covers.
Secondly there is no way of looking and saying it looks bad as they are usually looking fine until they break which is why mitsu reccommend every 100,000k's

i decided its not worth the risk.. will just leave it all up to the mechanic :badgrin:
