Hey People. I just bought a cheap AWD KJ AWD.
One thing i noticed that sometimes it seems to slip between gears. Is this normal? Could I be looking at an expensive transmission replacement?

Usually only happens between 2nd and 3rd gear change. if I feather it it is fine. if I thrash it a bit it seems ok. Just a niggling that I dont want to blow up in my face later.
Any advice would help.

Ta.

This is what is called flaring.
It's a bad sign and from what I've read on this form the first thing that people recommend is doing a transmission fluid flush using the appropriate oil and hope this fixes it as otherwise it could be a much more expensive issue.
Have a look at the color and smell of the transmission oil via the transmission dipstick in the engine bay

I also heard that a enu reset may help... thats easiest atm... keep you posted on progress.... Hope its not the transmission....

It may have been cheap because of the trans... If an ECU reset (battery disconnection) doesn't achieve anything, a full fluid flush would be the next thing - checking the old fluid for metal fragments while doing so.

I also drive an AWD
Here is the link for the re-learning procedure for the transmission once the battery is reconnected & generally sorts out any transmission flairing that is due to reset.

In line transmission cooler & additional external filter is a must for the INVECSII transmissions IMO for the sake of longevity & reliability.
I also agree with the others for changing the tranny fluid with the genuine Mitsubishi SPII evey 25000ks or so. The log book says 45000Kms but that is too long an interval with respect to transmission fluid quality.

Agree with ADM. Make sure you do the re-learn procedure with the trans. If done correctly it should resolve your issues. But a fluid flush is a must as well.
