View Full Version : TF ECU interchangeability

On eBay when sellers list matched ECU/BEM and keys ignition locks they often stress that the parts numbers on the ECU's must match. Is this written in blood? There seem to be an absolute plethora of ECU parts numbers with little commonality between numbers. Would swapping in a non matching number ECU/BEM/lock/keys set for the same setup of 6g72/auto cause issues? Thanks.

No BEM on the tf. There are a few different part numbers. I have swapped 2 tf ECU's and they have both been fine. Didn't pay much attention to the part numbers, so it could have been dumb luck.

Thanks for your reply dreggzy. I have been looking up old posts and found one where Madmagna says the immobiliser is behind the ashtray on TE/TFs, I'm guessing that is the black box which is under the ashtray on the tunnel right hand side with Bosch on it. So obviously any ECU that works with a BEM is out of the question. Wondering what this unit is below?

Hasn't that one got something to do with the a/c? Sits under the blower unit

It's being sold as part of an engine control/immobiliser ignition kit by a wrecker so that's why I was wondering.

Who ever is selling that "kit" has NFI
The parts you need are the key and barrel, the immob unit under the console (black box) and the ECU.
The part to the far left is the receiver unit, not needed or tied into the system, the main black box shown is the AC control unit and the rest is just a poor photo of a complete steering barrel and lock assy which has been taken out if the car complete with the steering lock set up for some unknown reason.

Southport Auto Recyclers. The photo is larger, I cropped it to emphasise the unit I was mystified by. Here's the original. So that means the 'kit' - they call it a set - doesn't have the necessary immobiliser, or BEM making it useless.

This is from another ebay seller for a TE. Which is the immobiliser the unit with the white label at the top or the black one below?

The second pic is correct in so far as parts go although receiver is not needed
TE will NOT work on the TF as the trans has different set up and you will not have working gears if that makes sense. You need a TF set up
I usually have a couple here I sell for $175 for the kit pp

Ok, thanks. Chasing a possible on Gumtree at the present. Do you have any with more than one key?
