fist thing:
i dropped the car into my mechanic today for a service and a poke around to see where all the oil was leaking from. front tappet cover gasket is the source and the mechanic and i decided that next time i book it in (some time in the next 2 weeks) we do front and back at the same time along with rear plugs and leads. is there anything else in around those parts that might be worth checking out?

second thing:
my windscreen washer jets appear to be suffering from the car equivalent of a swollen prostate. i get a good initial burst and then it dies down to a trickle. water bottle is full and i can keep getting good burst for about half a second every few seconds. any ideas on what may be the cause would be good. i can hear the pump making the same noise as it does normally. would it be worth looking for a blockage in the hoses?

blow the nozzels and hoses out with compressed air and also clean the the pump and the pump and the bottle. If worse comes to worse then when we do the dash loom change over then we can do that while i still have the TH here for you or you may be able to get the nozzles off my car when i get 380 ones

sounds good. i'm hoping it's just something like a pebble that's getting pushed around.

A couple of places to check:
About a year ago mine had a split hose under the water bottle, just after the pump. I removed the water bottle, cut hose shorter, reattached hose and refit bottle. Fixed.
Then a couple of months ago I had no water to the washer jets at all - the plastic Y pipe on the bonnet where the main hose connects had decayed completely - cost about $5 from Mitsu spare parts and cleared out old remnants and replaced in 3 minutes max.
Now I have low pressure at the jets, specifically drivers side, so I think I missed a bit of broken plastic.

Experienced something like this myself just recently - ended up having to clean the filter on the washer pump intake. There was a heap of accumulated grunge in it. Rinsed out the resevoir as well while I had it all out.

Clean or replace your PCV valve. Change tube seals, as they will also be rooted.

+1 for T piece fail. Broken bits got right into the jets.

thanks. i'll certainly check to make sure there's nothing split in there when i pull it all out.

removed the washer bottle and cleaned it all out. filter was so gunked up i'm amazed that i got any water coming out of the jets. the plastic Y piece near the jet heads was so brittle that it fell apart in my hand and looked like crushed garlic. i needed to scoop the rest of it out of each hose end with a flat screwdriver. seeing as i no longer had the Y piece, i had to go and get a replacement only to find out there's nowhere in the area that sells Y pieces that small. went with a metal T piece instead and now have warm water shoot out of the heads with considerable power.
