Im gona do an coolant and oil change before i start driving my new magna on wednesday.
What do people reccomend i use? I have some Castrol gtx2 and some Tectaloy 90plus left over from my last car.
But my apprentice mechanic friend told me magnas have coolent corrosion problems so you have to make sure you use the right coolant.

Oh i have TS V6.

Well firstly I wouldn't use left over oil since it starts to degrade once the bottle is opened and it's exposed to air. Personally I use Castrol GTX3, but I think GTX2 would be a good choice for a slightly older car like this (especially if it has a fair few miles on the clock).

My Hanes manual for the TE-TJ series only specifies "50% Ethylene-glycol based antifreeze and 50% demineralised water" as the coolant. I'd use any quality antifreeze that meets that criteria.

Well i just looked up on the Tectaloy website and it sez the 100plus is 50% Ethylene-glycol based antifreeze.
It also says "recommend for use with aluminium alloy engines and radiators". Is the ts magna engine alloy?

I know all this info is probably in the car manual but mine didn't come with one.

From the mitsu service manual (TR/KR, but applies to TS/KS As well)

"Conforming to the requirements of the A.P.I. classification 'For Service SG, with a phosphorus content not exceeding 0.1% by weight, suitable for use in vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter', having the correct S.A.E. Viscosity grade number for the expected temperature range.

Then it has a chart which looks like this:

Hope that helps.

I assume that info and chart is concerning oil, but i can't exactly work out what oil its trying to recommend from that

Would you mind translating killbilly? :)

Basically depending on what temperature your car is expected to be running at dictates what oil you use.

For younger cars it's generally the 10w/40,50 and older it's the 20w/40,50
