Hi all,
My front and back engine mounts have torn almost all the way through so I need to replace them.
I was just quickly wanting to ask where is the best place to get a decent set from (other than genuine mitsy ones).
I've seen some on fleabay and rockauto and wondering if anyone has any experience with them?
Bursons sell a set and it's around $130 for a complete mount, or $60/each for the inserts. Was considering buying inserts but any place that has a hydraulic press is asking around $50 to press 2 inserts into 2 mounts so it works out as much as buying a full bolt-on set off ebay.
I just dont want to have to replace them again in 1000kms. The car does get some harsher driving and axle hoping occurs reasonably often.
Any bad experiences with generic ones?
Cheers,

Seen a wagon destroy them within a few weeks.

I personally just got ones in good knick from the wreckers.

I wouldn't recommend RockAuto if youre just solely getting engine mounts; freight will not make it worthwhile and the quality is unknown.
When I replaced mine (with genuine), my mechanic said a lot of the aftermarket ones were pretty shitty, rubber insert just doesn't stay bonded to the bracket. He didn't mention brands, but although I had already bought genuine replacements, it just reiterated my thoughts. I take it you have already priced genuine mounts?
Have you considered going down the polyurethane route? You may get a bit more vibration in the cabin, but they have been proven durable from what other have said (maybe ask Megatron, as he was selling them at one point)
EDIT: Genuine fronts mounts are approx $91 and rear mounts are approx $95, and they're complete with bracket, no pressing required. Why would you bother going an aftermarket rubber-type when they're comparable in price?

I sell them for 99 each, are decent ones from Australian company.

Do only the front and rear engine mounts ever need changing?

They are all rubber and all go at some stage. Drivers side mount are very common to go

Thanks everyone for your input. My concern was definitely build quality of aftermarket ones. No use spending $70 for a mount, and it breaking in a month when I could spend a bit more to get one that lasts. Being manual, axle hopping is pretty inevitable and they will kill a shitty mount very quickly.
Not really interested in poly at this stage. Only comes in insert form so I need tp pay for pressing and the cabin gets enough vibrations with big wheels and stiff suspension. Anymore than it already has, and I'd be getting really annoyed.
$90 for genuine is a bargain and a no-brainer. I was tipping them to be much more expensive. I know the drivers side one was over $200 from Mitsy when you could get them aftermarket for less than half that so I based my assumption on that. I shall be calling Mitsy tomorrow morning then.
Otherwise, I'l avoid the fleabay/rockauto ones based on what I'm hearing from peaandham.

The only vibration I get with the poly mounts is at idle other than that you can't tell the difference. You don't need a press if going to poly bushes, just place 2 cuts about 10mm apart in the bush sleeve and then hit it out with a chisel. Poly mounts are 2 piece with a crush pipe.

Sorry to hijack the thread but what polys are you using, In ben's tj sports he had all poly mounts and the car shook like a tractor, wasn't impressed.

AMC ones from Megatron which my brother had in his vrx which he bought about 4-5 years ago now. Both cars are manual. Poly mounts front, rear and engine side, also there were 2 different hardness to pick from.

The wagon peaandham was on about was me, the front roll stop was replaced at the beginning of the year, 3 months latter replaced the rear mount then 2 days later both died on me.

Ending up getting a full refund and turns out I wasn't the only one who had this problem in a short amount if time since purchase. These were cheap mounts, if I had the money and time I would've gotten the best first up.

If the engine mounts from RockAuto are decent quality, then it'll cost me around $150 with delivery which is the cheapest so far. Question is whether they'll last or not. Brand is "Anchor".
I just checked with Knox Mitsubishi and the front and back engine mounts come to a total of $292 (140 rear, 160 front). This is a fair bit more than I was expecting.

I'm not so sure at this stage I'm ready to go for poly mounts. There's a fair bit of vibration that transfers into the cabin thanks to my big wheels and stiff shocks and not sure I want even more. Granted; that most of the current vibrations are from the shot mounts. That being said, it's probably only a matter of time with rubber mounts before they crack again.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. That looks like a nasty tear. What brand were they or where did you get them from? (So I can avoid them!)
I also got a quote from Burson as well - they are around $250 for the set. However for half the cost I can get inserts. So I'm going to probably buy the inserts and press them in.

As I stated I have here on the shelf good aftermarket mounts, have sold many of them, can do them for $180 for the set which is a complete mount, not just a bush. Up to you if you want to go to the trouble of pressing bushes in and out.

They were Mackie I believe from memory
If the shock mounts are shot too, maybe getting all at the same time from Rack Auto could be cost effective.

Yep. They've already been rooted and replaced thanks to RockAuto. Bought a set of KYB's for $130 delivered! (plus some rear strut bushes).
Will end up buying a bolt-on set me thinks. Few workshops want to be bothered with replacing engine mount inserts. Too much work for shit money.

Do engine mounts harden and cause vibrations, or are they generally ok until they break and need changing?
