What is the consensus here about "reset of base idle" after battery disconnection?
I've read mixed views, with some saying it must be done (hooking up to a scanner and adjusting it) and some saying no need and the ECU will figure it out automagically.
What's the real position?

If you base idle was correct prior there is no need to redo after reconnect. All depends on where your base idle was set prior to the disconnect

Its not needed. The ECU should sort the base idle out by itself if it was fine before.

Just be wary of the idle after you have disconnected the battery for a while.
Both my third gens refuse to idle after a disconnect. Takes quite a while for the ECU to bring it back up. Not fun stalling the engine at a traffic light, or entering a corner with throttle off. I need to keep the revs up with the throttle, allow the revs to drop down to almost a stall, then bring them back up with my foot. Repeat until it's steady. I normally do this stationary. Bit of a pain if you try to rush the process and drive off early.

Does base idle reset need to be done with special equipment or can most mechanics do it?
