Just letting all TL owners out there know that the window switches from the ES and LS models are as of today no longer available. I have ordered the last one today and MMAL have confirmed that they have no intention of making any more in the future

So if you have a TL, look after your window switch and hope it does not clag itself because you will have no operational windows

Are those unobtainable switches the central switches or the ones on the doors?

A possible substitute for a central switch:

Would not look pretty though.

What is the common cause of them failing?

I own neither, but does that also apply to TW/KW's? Are they the same unit?

Common cause is coke or similar gooing up the contacts and then the owners push hard on the switch trying to get contact happening and the switch falls apart into the unit. The little metal rockers short and no windows

Now provided the rocker is not damaged and the switch housing has not had the tabs broken off this can be pulled apart and cleaned, clean contacts etc and good to go BUT often the switch has collapsed and the game is over.

I have 4 sitting here I think I will hang onto now for my regulars if they need them so guys, if you find one at a wrecker grab it for a spare as these will become very scarce very quickly.

The KL & KW window controls are door mounted, if I'm not mistaken.

Correct, they are door mounted and use the same switch as the earlier Magna's. Only the Magna's have the centre mounted switch, this goes to include ES, LS, VR, VRX and AWD models.

This has been a problem for a while.

My brother has a TL ES with the centre console switches. When he tried to get a new one six months ago, Mitsubishi said they had run out back then. Obviously they hadn't (or maybe they'd run out of a certain colour already).

Nope, they had not actually run out of stock but the number had changed but was not reflected in ASA thus they were looking at an obsolete number. Is quite funny as I have sold a few switches to dealerships which I myself also purchased from a dealership....

I am speaking to a company in China (best place to get things made like this) and will be sending one of my last new ones off to them to see if we can get these made. Given we have sold over a hundred of these just this financial year I think it may be worthwhile to see if this can be done

Pardon my ignorance but aren't the individual switches themselves the same between a TL/W and the others?

No they are a switch block

Good idea

So you are talking about the silver ones here, right?

I saw you still have some dark grey ones in your ebay store.

could you please clarify: does this affect the TW? in particular TW ES? thanks

As posted above, it does. TL and TW are the same in that respect.

If the switches are all identical, it may be possible to swap say a failed driver's door switch for one of the lesser used rear door switches.
Just a thought.

Except the drivers switch has the "auto down" icon embedded on it. Never pull one of these apart, but I have pulled apart the KF-KL ones on the door, and the actual switch "rocker" can be serviced/replaced.

Issue is the pins in the switch face which hold the button break

Hi Madmagna

Just wondering if you had any luck having the switch replicated?

Another question is if the main switch is stuffed would none of the windows work? My drivers window is the only one that won't go down so was wondering if it could be just the motor?

Cheers

If the single switch is not working the others will still work unless your fuse has blown due to bits inside the switch shorting out

I have sent off the sample switch but could be months before I see anything if it is even at the end of the day worth my investment as I may need to get at least a thousand made which is a massive investment

I do have some used switches at the moment but they move pretty fast now the new are not available

Thanks for that wow that would be a massive investment. How much for a switch if you have one available?

Cheers

Adam

This thread has made me very sad. I came on to the forum to see if I could source a new centre switch as one of mine is broke and I can't open the rear passenger side window...
