G'day everyone,

Ive been attempting to wire this component for ages but i cant get the thing to work. Its a universal dome light extender from ebay user vikingau_2012. A link to the ebay listing:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330806733072&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:AU:3160

Some instructions i was given to test the unit:

Have you taken a DOOR switch off & checked the connections there? how many wires do you have?

Next check if the device is working. A simple way to test the device is working,
You will need a 12v globe & socket with + & - wires, connect the + wire to +12v of battery, connect the devices YELLOW wire to the - wire of the socket.
Next touch the devices BLACK wire to -negative of battery for a few seconds, when you release the BLACK wire the light should stay on.
Once you have determined whether the device is working or not you can connect as per instructions

no instructions were supplied, which is awesome.

If it helds anyone i have a te exec sedan. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

it seems like the way its instructed that you would have to cut the negative wire that runs to your interior light and put the yellow wire on the interior lights negative side and the black wire to the other side of the negative wire, so the negative has to run through the dimmer extender? im not 100% sure just throwing it out there as that how some extenders work, if they never gave you instructions i would be asking for them as the listing says instructions included.

just a little FYI i had one in my car, (Jaycar) and you cannot lock the door with your remote until the light has gone out because the central locking now thinks the door is open, so i had to stay there somtimes in the rain for 20 seconds waiting it to go out, the time was variable, but that was the minimum.
i ripped it out pretty quick

That wiring is actually very easy. It is the negative one, and it splices into the wiring rather than cutting it. But it wont let the car lock while it is on.

The yellow wire going from the door to the central locking module is the one you have to splice. The yellow wire on the unit splices into it. Then the black wire just connects to the body. Thats it.

I imagine if you didn't connect it like this you probably damaged the capacitors.
