Hey all, my car is back from the panel beaters and overall I'm happy with the result. I rang on Friday last week wondering when I could pick it up, and was told that they needed it a bit longer as more damage had been found underneath. Replaced the headlight, and fog light so I'm wrapped. It was all accepted by the assessor so no skin off my nose, so I pick it up today as I was doing a walk around I was thinking the colour does not match. The drivers side 1/4 panel and front bar look a little lighter, but then I thought it was the light so I took it home had a look in the driveway, same thing. So I took some pics and was wondering if anyone can see the difference in colour or is it just me. To the pics....

For those of you who hadn't seen this is the damage that was repaired...

I can definitely see it. I was of the understanding that with metallic paints, you were supposed to feather them into the adjacent panels to avoid what's happened to yours?

I have a 3 year paint warranty with it so I may take it back and raise the issue with them.

I would do exactly that, I don't feel they've blended the colours in at all. Looks like a good job as far as the work that was done, just not done how it should of been haha.

Look at brand new VE Commodores, especially the silver ones the rear and front bars have more of an ochre colour to them, plastic bars are always very hard to match to the solid body parts, there will always be a difference especially with the age of the paint so some crash shops will get the paint code and then manually adjust the colour accordingly.

I can see a slight difference but trough the camera I just put that down to different lighting.

Edit: I see you had the quarter done too, once again though I can tell but without seeing it in person I cannot suggest it, If you are un happy about just have a friendly chat with the guys who did the work.

Peaandham - yeah its not the bar it's more the 1/4 panel, it just looks lighter than what it should be.

It must be the way the colour is cause mine is the same, what did help though was a good polish on the rest of the pannels, I can notice the differce but other people can't

1/4 panel is different, doesnt look feathered.
The bars always look different to the body, and did so from manufacture. (Not enough coats imo).
The hard part is getting the bars looking original again cos repairers try to match to the body!

Called them up this morning and let them know about the difference in colour, they said the bonnet wasn't polished.
So I'll let them polish it up good and see how it turns out. My only concern is that once the polish wears out/off,
won't it be back to the state its in now?

Even though pics are hard to see as you can not control light etc from what I see that is a load of BS about the bonnet not being polished as they should have blended to the bonnet anyway thus this should not come out at all

Now with this colour, you need to take into account light, even in the pre repair pics the colour looks out as well but I am sure it was not, this would be just a light thing. Make sure that you get proper opinions from people looking at the car in person as no one here can give even an opinion based on a photo where there can be so many variables especially with a colour like Sapphire Blue.

Agreed as this was my original thought but I my thinking was to get other opinions.

The bonnet/panel gap makes it very difficult to judge whether the colour is actually different or not. Just for the fun of it I edited your pic to remove the gap, the colour does indeed appear different though as Mal said it depends a lot on the light, the angle of the panel etc.

Unfortunately its not due to the amount of coats. When Mitsubishi were making the 3rd gens they had one of the best success rates in getting the colour of the bars to match as close a possible to the body, unfortunately alot of other makes especially Holden could not do it so well, seems they still cant.

as Mal said it depends a lot on the light,
