hi everyone, i have a problem with my TF magna, when i start it, it idles like normal, but when i try to rev it either in park or neutral it will stall unless i gun it, when i put the air con on it idles fine and goes revs again but only with the fan on and the ac, if i turn the ac off it will play up again, and also when i try it in gear the car will move in park but when i try any throttle at all, it will stall, does anyone have any ideas?,
thanks,

Try cleaning the idle speed control motor with carby clean - it is located near the throttle body.

Thanks, ill give that a try after work tomorrow

Since it idles ok, my guess would be the EGR valve opening when it shouldn't. As I understand it, at idle the ISC will regulate the engine speed, but once the throttle is opened it has little effect. If there is air getting into the manifold other than through the air flow sensor, the mixture will be too lean. This will be very noticeable at light throttle but less so when giving it the beans, since the throttle valve is wide open anyway. I recently had a similar problem, in my case it turned out to be a dodgy MAF (air flow sensor in the black plastic pipe twixt air cleaner and throttle body) which was feeding incorrect data to the ECU, which in turn closed the EGR solenoid, causing the EGR valve to open when it shouldn't. Mine's a TJ, I'm not sure if there's a difference in how the EGR operates with the TFs, but if you can locate the EGR valve (should be between the plenum chamber and the firewall, close to the throttle body), crimp the vacuum hose that leads to it, shutting off the air flow, and give the engine a rev. If this is the culprit the problem should be gone.

There are a number of things that can cause the EGR valve to open at the wrong time, such as the MAF, the EGR solenoid, a leaking or blocked vac line, or I guess a stuffed ECU, but eliminating the EGR valve would be the first thing I would attempt.

no EGR on the TF, the TH had it. not sure about the KF 3.5 tho

Oh, sorry about that. Please ignore my post...!

Sounds as if you have an air leak into the manifold. The ISC is compensating at idle, but when you finally give it some power, it cannot keep up. Check for leaks in a hose, or even a hose fallen off.

Thanks ill just go out now and have a look, when its in gear and i touch the trotlle at all it will stall out, no matter what i do

Now when i start ir it idles all over the place aswell as stalls, when i gun it it wont rev past about 2000rpm and sounds like its cutting out like a rev limiter,
Has anyone had this problem before, i cant drive the car anywhere and its got me stumped

I just quickly unpluged the maf when i was holding the throttle open, it reved up alot but died as soon as i took the throttle off, when i plug the maf back in it idles again but wont rev, could it be a faulty maf?

i just went and started it again, and it idles abit rough still but it seams to be working again, can rev freely and move properly in gear now, the only things i did was unplug the pvc valve and clean it (was covered in black gunk up), and unplug the maf and rev it then plug it back in and turned it off let it sit for about half hour and tried again, after about 10 seconds if idleing i reved it and it seemed perfect again, would the gunk in the pvc valve cause this
