the TW uses a bit of power steering fluid. Pedders said there's a leaking seal and quoted $700 for a new rack. Can I get just the seal replaced for less?

Sounds about right for a drive-in drive-out rack replacement. Do they mean "new" as in "reconditioned" though?

It's a convenience thing, it's easier for (some) owners to pay the money and quicker for the workshop to pull it out and replace the whole lot. With the labour involved, just replacing the leaky seal would cost just as much anyway.

Do a search, people have extracted the rack from their cars themselves, and one person even went as far as doing a DIY seal replacement.

I had a refurbished one fitted for $700 from my mechanic.
