hi guys
a couple weeks ago i had a thread about my complaint that was

1- slightly weakened power
2- increased fuel consumption
3- low and slightly shaky idling

i ordered NGK lazer iridium plugs x6 (even though log book suggested it didnt need so.. well it was wrong) and NGK blue plug leads from rockauto as well as a decent fuel filter. (9 each for plugs, 48 for leads plus postage)
despite the thought my mechanic had that this wasnt necessary i insisted.. job cost 175 bucks
fuel casket covers seals were also replaced to save future hassle (78 bucks from global auto supplies.. rip off)

all was replaced yesterday, and now car is more responsive, has more power, and combined fuel is down to around 8 (will probably go higher soon as i drive more inner city , i am estimating to sit around 9.5) idling also increased, now smoother and around 800-900rpm, rather than 500-600
one set of the removed spark plugs were rubbish,, the second set was OKish. and fuel filter was dirty

warning about NGK blue leads from rockauto for diamante SOHC 3.5:

-plugs are too long for magna... the routing was silly and touched metal here and there, i fixed it up finding a better route near air filter, but also found out that none of the plugs were inserted properly. these require a bit more than usual push till you hear a fine click (thank God i accidentally figured this out.. mechanics !!!!! GRRR )
-just curious, what would happen if the plugs remained half inserted? i am estimating arcing and damage on plugs and leads

-new symptom after this work,, i smell fuel when i start the engine.. sort of hot fuel feeling. mech checked around and said ok.. but .. i insist.. where should i check to make sure ? or where should i keep an eye for this?

thank you in advance for any advise

is the smell only present from a cold start or is it there when the engine is started after reaching normal operating temperature?
