I know it's probably been covered elsewhere on the forums, but I can't find it, so I'm gonna post it and hopefully might get somewhere

I've got a 7in Double DIN HU that came with a reversing camera, which I'm planning on putting in my KH Verada.

Most of the install looks to be pretty straightforward, the only thing that's causing concern is where to wire in the reverse activation signal from the HU. If I don't wire it in I can still use the camera but I would have to select it manually, which means I would hardly ever use it. (Just to be clear, I'm not interested in what wire use to power the camera, already got that covered)

So basically, aside from running a cable from the HU all the way down the car to the reverse lights, is there anywhere closer to the HU I can tap into the reverse lights???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I had an RCA cable with wire for the reverse signal running with it. Its how my first reverse camera came and I swear by it now.
In your case, maybe you need to find a wiring diagram and see where the reverse gear sensor runs and tap into it.

If it's an auto, you could tap into the wire for the reverse indicator lamp on the dash. In either case (auto or manual) there's a wire from the inhibitor/reverse switch from the gearbox via the junction box to the reverse lights (it's a branch of this wire that lights the reverse indicator for the auto). It's red with a blue stripe (R-L) the whole way, no idea how easy it will be to spot or get to but maybe accessible at the junction box?

For simplicity's sake, you could just tap into the reverse light wire at the back of the car ;)

The way mine is set up (not sure about all of them) on the reversing camera there is 1 yellow rca lead with a single wire running with it, then a separate power and earth wire. the power and earth wire are connected to the reverse plug wires in the boot, then run the rca lead with the separate wire to the HU, the rca lead connects to the camera in, and the separate wire that runs with it connects to the camera trigger wire on the HU.
