I've never done this, but I did find it briefly discussed in the Workshop Manual - see pic

I have a feeling - based on zero experience - that this is one of those jobs that appears difficult but turns out to be simple provided you're safe and have the right tools.

From what I've seen of steering assembly's, removing much of it, with the right tools, is actually fairly easy.

The entire assembly is bolted to the chassis at four points - front ones are connected to the K-frame chassis rail, and the back ones at near the lower control arm mounting points (I always put jack stands under those bolts when I prop up the car). To make it easy, you'd need to either pop out the driveshafts from the hub & undo the hub from the strut (getting off the lower control arm ball joint would be far more difficult) or undo the control arm's from the steering assembly, undo the power steering line and the steering nuckle. Probably a 30-60min job.

Getting the actual rack out of the steering assembly could be a bit more annoying. If the TL/TW you're removing the assembly from is in decent nick with less wear, then I'd just bolt up the entire assembly to replace your current one. For ultimate longevity, you could do a full power steering rack overhaul with new boots and tie rods.

After it's all hooked up you'd need to fill the power steering system and get the air out. I imagine there's a bleed valve of sorts or a bleed kit.
