So ,seeing as i am on a roll asking frivolous question ,well ,not to me any way..

My TH Sports had the factory spoiler, hence ,no rear mounted window brake light.

I have always wanted to have a factory set up,so...

Has anyone retro fitted one to an earlier model without changing over the rear screen ?

Is it simply a matter of removing the light from a TJ or TL etc and re gluing it to the screen.

I have noticed that the "blacked out " area is a different pattern ,but ,will this actually make any difference if i do put it on a the rear glass...oh ,and i do realise that to make it look best ,that i will need the matching headliner.

and ,no ,i have yet to find an aftermarket rear led stop light that will match the factory intensity.

thanks.

Michael.

Mike,

The headliner is the least of your issues. It is a normal one with a cutout slightly to suit. It isnt moulded differently.

Since the 2 plastic clips for the Lamp are glued to the glass, you can put it anywhere.

I would be checking that there is a small plug in the roof harness (there usually is) The length of this harness will dictate your lamp position really. But a bit further down won't make a difference.

What about a TF parcel shelf as the light is lower, may be able to mod it to give better light and then retrim the TF shelf to black to match

I asked a similar question a a few years ago. http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87614

I have a TJ with a TE back windscreen. While the top black area of the TE windscreen does not have a cut-out for the high mount brake light, the actual width of it is thinner, so when you mount the brake light against the windscren and you can still see the brake light from behind the car. The light is very minimally blocked by the black part of the windscreen so anyone apart from a double-b truck can should be able to see it.

wouldnt that be the vehicle that you would most want to see your brake light?

Well not really for a variety of reasons.

1) A truck would struggle to see the faory fitted spoiler brake light.
2) Truck driver are professional drivers and should be preempting any cars braking due to both thief vision and driver skill. If they're only responding to you brake light, then they are both too close and driving dangerously being reactive instead of proactive. With their long braking distances this is bad news.

The concern would more be for 4x4s but I've driven with my setup for well over 40,000 kms without issue.

This would be very helpful. I presently don't have a high mount as I am in the same boat as Mike, I dewinged and thus don't have one any more. Jakeys 2.0 has the headliner with the cutout (1.0 did not) so my only issue is the incompatible windscreen. I would be very keen to mount the OEM one slightly lower to the glass as I have found all the aftermarket options to look like ass and I don't like the TH parcel shelf mounted one at all.

That's TE/TF ones Jake, TH are top mounted.
