Hi there, I have fitted my finacee's TL magna with the old tyre mag set from my car. They are 225/50 R 17 Bridgestone supercat, the front wheels have heaps of clearance, but the rears have some kind of arm that feels close to the edge of the tyre and i am not sure if it will rub. I let the handbrake off and spun the wheel, some slight scuffing noise was heard, but when a piece of paper was put between the area where i thought it would rub and the tyre, it didnt appear to catch. Has anyone else tried this tyre/wheel combination on a TL magna or knows of the recommended width?

Thanks in advance

225/50/17 is the stock tyre width for the factory 17" wheels.

What are the mags from your old car?

The wheels originally on the magna were just the standard steel rims with the plastic covers, the tyres that fit on them are 205/65 r15. The 225/50 r 17 were off my car, a NF hyundai sonata. I am still concerned of the potential for the tyre to rub. Im not sure of what this 'arm' is, in about the centre of the rear wheel arch. Im acutely aware of the potential for it to rub and for the tyre to blow out, so any further information that you can provide me with would be great.

Thanks

What width and offset are the Sonata mags? These factors play a big role in determining clearance.

Hi, regarding the sonata mag that i put on the magna this arvo, on the tyre on same says 225/50 r17 94V apart from that, i dont know how to determine the width or the offset.

Wheel dimensions are cast into the alloy, need to remove the wheel to look at the back. Don't know if it includes the offset though.

The arm you are concerned about is part of the suspension. If it has clearance with the tyre it should be ok. Why not rub some chalk on the back of the tyre, on the sidewall closest to the suspension arm, take it for a spin around the block - find some bumps to work the suspension - and see if the chalk has been wiped off? Just a thought.

Trawl the hyundai forums to see if you can find the offset of those mags. Once you got the number someone can compare it with the same size Magna wheels.

If you do choose to run with them though, keep an eye on them. Some tyres tend to spread the tread area as the tyre ages. Just stick your head under the back of the car and look for rub marks on the sidewalls.
