i have been having this average whine that annoys me
lately i paid more attention and tried to diagnose this properly,
i used to think its all transmission but not now.

there is a tranny whine at gears 1 and 2 (automatic)

then at about 60 kmh a different whine emerges, noticeable atill 80kmh.
after that either it gets really faint.. or maybe wind noise and other stuff hides it.

i dont know whether this can be the bearings or the tyres. (current tyres are only a year old but nothing special.. diamondback cheapies in front, and minevra in back)
before i go and spend coin on better tyres i wanted to ask

is there a way that i can figure this out whether its the tyres or bearings.. or anything else?

cheers

Tyre noise changes with different driving surfaces, bearing or diff noise changes with cornering forces, engine load and speed.

I doubt the tyres would make a whine.. btw please dont buy tyres like that again youre endangering yourself and your family if you ever need to slam on the brakes.

Tyres can make all manner of funny noises, a whine is easily one of them especially on concrete surfaces

no i would never try to save 30 bucks on tyres.. the idiot who sold me the car had these installed to get it roadworthy.
it has been bugging me all along, especially with the car not having abs, so i will probably change these even though they re like new.

ive been reading good stuff about Kumho KH18 tyres, but dont really know if there are better options without braking the bank too much.

as for the whine, i daily drive down to post office, and the road is bitumen. while on concrete, or hard or older bitumen roads, its much more noisy, but its different type of noise that either dominates the whine that i cannot hear or maybe changes type..
its hard to diagnose what is what, especially considering that i am new with all car stuff.

Seeing you have different brands on the back compared to front, why not swap them over and see if the noise changes?

A whine could come from anywhere, lots of bearings in the front of the car (if it isn't tyres).

thats a good idea.. if i werent hopeless with diy, i would probably do it.
its just quite a bit struggle to use the stock lifter thing and tiny wrench i have.
i think i will still go ahead and replace the tyres regardless.. just for the sake of better safety, then see if anything changes.
what do you think of kumho kh18 tyres from kmart auto?

Oh good to see you didnt do it. If you ever need to check reviews on tyres have a look at tyrereviews.co.uk
Honest reviews usually.
