Hi everyone. I recently bought a set of decent LED DRL unit for my TL. I have no issue to mount it and wiring in not a problem unit. However, I need to clamp the trigger wire to some wire in the engine bay that have +12v only when the ignition key is at ON or ACC position. Then I don't have to run a long long wire through firewall. Any suggestion where and how do I get into it? Many thanks.

Not sure about tl but on my 380 I used windscreen wiper fuse position in engine bay as they are live on accessory.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Mike that wont do as need ignition, otherwise when you are sitting there listening to the radio, the DRLs will be on too. TL Person, I am afraid there is no where in the engine bay fuse box for this unless you go searching for it (perhaps in the loom for the autobox, abs controller, engine looms etc) that is why I ran a wire from the ignition fuse in the footwell. BTW, which ones did you get? Do a search on her for mine and maggie3.5.

I was lucky in that i had converted to a manual and there happened to be a ign wire on in the left over auto loom ,otherwise ,you will have to take it from the fusebox inside.
Mike, do you know which wire? I might tap into that instead of running to the inside. It is such a pain. The Outlander has an ignition fuse in the engine bay but no parker fuse so had to tap into the parker wire instead.

.....no i dont...will have to look at the plug ,but dont know which plug it was on the box ,and ,there may be a difference between the four and five speed box looms...

The relay box is full of wires that are powered by ignition. Why not just get a test light out and get testing?

It ain't as easy to tap into a relay as it is easy to tap into a fuse using the add-a-circuit fuse tap. Only way is to insert a piece of wire and wedge it in one of the switched pins.

On my KR, I undid the relay/fuse junction and spliced into a relay wire from underneath. Havent had to tap into my TJ as of yet (assuming its similar/same as the TL), though Id think it was fairly doable. My Philips DRLs came with a voltage increase sensing relay which is helpful for the sake of ease, though nothing beats wiring it up properly!

Hi Vlad, I bought this kit on eBay over 6 months but I can find it again. It looks similar to this item on eBay, #251158382696. This kit only comes with lights, brackets and screws. But mine has a relay and costs $15 more (include postage). The feature of this relay controller is it will make the light run 75% bright and when you make a side turn it will increase it's brightness to 100% with the side indicators and blink at the same time. When you turn off the car it will remain 100% bright for 10-15 seconds as a "see you to the door" feature. These lights has a pair of slim line brackets that can just mount to the upper side of the lower air intake of front bumper bar, near the driving lights of the TL/KL. I believe you can buy separate relay of these lights for $10 with wires or just get a simple relay from auto shop and wire it up yourself. As you might know, all electrical accessories are better run with a relay and lasts longer and do your car's electrical system a favor.Cheers.

Oh, by the way Shezza, how did you undo your relay/fuse junction? Is it the fuse box inside you are talking about or the engine bay one just above the left wheel arch?
engine bay therwise there are IGN fuses in the cabin.

Had a quick look today! I saw clips and some 10mm bolts. I have Philips DRLs which connect straight up to the battery. Has a module that either senses fluctuation or voltage increase. Either way, I was going to set it up like you want when I finished my custom drls, but I guess I can do that bit now (when I find some free time). If I beat you to it, Ill let you know how I went. Otherwise, let us know how you go :)
Funny how you say wiring to the cabin is too hard. I agree with you all the way! I find it tiring! Though sadly I think I will want to have them on a switch. Sometimes you might want to sit in your car with the heater on, but not have any lights on. Well by "you", I mean me and I suppose some other people :P Through experience, I have come to face this.
On another note... are the leds youve bought a brand name or some no name cheapies? Because I am yet to see a bright set of cheapie DRLs (bright enough to challenge daylight). They may as well be NRLs and that doesnt even make much sense!
check out bright light auto parts in victoria. both maggie3.5 and myself got ours from them. Not cheap but damn good at 100lm/w running 6w per side. search for my drl threads.

They look pretty bright! I wonder how they perform matched up against my Philips DRLs. I did pay a whole bunch more! Though half the price of what Bursons wanted trade price. Thank you ebay! :)

Most likely you will beat me to it. I got work duties again this weekend. But I see how I go. Cheers!
