View Full Version : Minor Service @95k KM
I got my 380 service yesterday at the 95k KM marker and after the service, the car definitely feels MUCH better to drive.
Though I have a concern.
The motor oil was changed and the new one used was "Valvoline 10W30" as mentioned on the invoice. It doesnt say if this synthetic oil, which from my understanding should be the case.
Can you guys confirm if it is the case or not?

The recommendation is probably for semi synthetic as a minimum but the workshop would be able to advise if the oil used was mineral, semi or full synthetic.

You could just tell us the price paid for the oil and we can probably work it out from there.
It's bound to be one of these: lol

nothing wrong with valvoline durablend, ive been using it for years. It done very well in this test against other oils twice the price...... http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf
however for the 380, i believe the 5W-30 is what you want, also helps the common lifter chatter these engines have compared to the 10W-30

But 10-30 is thicker. Wouldnt that make it quieter? Im sure they have used a semi syn. Usually have it in big barrels

also given the age of the car, i wouldve had the timing belt service done as well, arent they supposed to be done after 5 years?

5 years or 100,000 km. A lot of people don't take any notice and go well over, other people panic at the potential bill and sell the car. lol

10 is the viscosity of the oil when at ambient temperature. 30 is at operating temperature.
Dont stray from manufacturer reccommended weights, simply try and different brand of oil with a different base and additive selection

Simply crazy!
We recently had the TJ's belt done - bought the bits through Mal and had it fitted by our mechanic (I'm not game) - all up about $800 - I mean really - sell the flippin' car?? What - and lose all the benefits of having a car that you know and own outright!
Actually the same mechanic recently said to me that hardly anyone these days keeps their cars and has repair work done; most of them really ARE selling.
