Does anyone have any info on TJ Magna AWD police packs?
im after tech info, specs, changes etc that mitsubishi makes to the cars that are built for police issue.
i know that mines had:
- 'stealth' security (doesnt flash indicators, doesnt make noises).
- police pack brake pads (product numbers Front - MR 932 319, Rear - MR 932 320)
But im looking to find out what other changes there are. Anyone know?
(VicPol later tinted the windows, wired in the rear lights, front lights, front speaker mods, dash board attachements, etc etc.)

So you're saying you've got a police spec AWD??
Cool! How does it go?
I thought there were performance mods done to the cop cars like boosting power up to around 180-190Kw. This may however just be an urban myth.
.
I have a TF, and when I got it from the auctions, it was in the 'police' section. Now, I don't believe they used this car for chasing people, or anything. I was probably dumped on the side of the road for half a day snapping photos of cars passing by or something.
There are a few things that I found after the car was purchased
Someone had drilled a hole, about 3cm in diamater in the firewall, where the clutch is meant to go and filled it up with sikaflex or some kind of silicone stuff. Its good in a way, coz it meant I didn't need to make one myself, or push it through the grommet. There were also a few holes drilled in the plastic panel under the steering wheel, right above the pedals, visible only if u look from the pedals. There is a patch of small scratches on my rear left window up the top, centre area. Who knows what happened there
As for mods etc, there car is completly stock. As a side note, I saw a marked police car for the first time last Friday. It was a TH.

no, nothing in the way of go-fast mods that i know of.... ive asked around and apparently they leave the engine and drive train alone.
Although i do get up to 27L/100km (or 300k/tank) around town... i think thats more fault related than mod related :P.
is definitely ex vicpol car... still got the original books and service papers from them. They spec pumping up the tyres a lil more and 5,000k oil etc....
It used to be an ex vicpol unmarked traffic car... got left over wiring throughout... including whapping great big hole in firewall filled up with gob of silastic for all their engine bay wires (stack of drill holes on left susp tower where they bolted relay boxes and stuff). Still got big co-ax cable and plug coming out of roofline above rear right door which used to plug into external radar. And am finding more and more drilled holes and wires every day. Is missing all the footwell panel covers underneath the dash. And still has impressions on dash and rear deck where the interior red and blu lights and radar control panel/radios used to be. And auction house was nice enuf to leave me the ex vicpol fire extenguisher in the boot for me :P.

Heh, it was only when i began to install my stereo did i discover wopping big holes in firewalls, and other little holes around the place. They didn't leave me a fire extinguisher tho :( I did find one in my uncle's old mazda 626. It was one of them old yellow ones. Poor car, I ended up blowing the engine on that car...thats why the magna is alive today :)

it had been wired to flash all the front/rear headlights/reverse lights and stuff seperately... might have had extra strobes as well. All the switches were taken out of course... but there is a few extra power wires and lots of electrical tape all over the place.

Ok I will try and post the specs for a 2wd as I can't fing the AWD Specs.
Yes they cahnge the computer but the cops do that in house also the brake pads are changed to very soft ones that last about 10 000 kn instead of the 70-80 you would expect.
I will keep looking for the AWD one and if i find it I will add it

thanx stacks revelstone...good work.
yeah i do love my brake pads lots :P but unforunately the local dealer sez those parts are no longer stocked australia wide....doh. So will have to get some decent aftermarket pads when replacement time comes.
wow.... that sez
- nu springs
- nu rear sway bar (although AWD sports has that already)
- nu brake pads (knew that)
- bigger alternator (good o !!!)
- sump guard (hmmm... will have to have another look...didnt notice that...)
- traction control (but mines AWD .... so no tract control for me.)
- cruise, abs, air con, 2xAirbags (... but all standard on my AWD sports anyways.)
- Magna Exec's making 155kw ? (doesnt say they have bigger exhausts?)
- 2km grad'd speedo (mine doesnt have this)
- roof light isolater
Coz mine was an unmarked AWD Sports im not sure just how many of these things it has or not. Not full kit coz it doesnt have the grad'd speedo.
There is a possibility it was just a plain stock AWD Sports before VicPol mod'd it themselves.

(PS: please find the AWD version for me :) :) :) :) )

So more importantly, can any one order the police-pack parts?
The sump guard would be handy for lowered cars! Know the cost of that revelstone?
It's also interesting how it's a base executive(?) model and it has traction control too. Was that ever an option on the exec? I wonder how that works ECU wise then??

as for buying the parts... i reckon u can... coz my local mistu dealer was happy about getting me the brake pads (until he found they not in stock anymore...).
wolf... have a look in the engine bay... boot floor...rear window deck... and firewall for extra drill holes. My front speakers all dont work coz they disconnected them from the stereo to run the police radio off of (will fix one day)... You will prob find a few extra wires left behind too if u start pulling up the trim.
