I find mine at times is a little temperamental and needs 2 or 3 tries to get it to wake up.

I have always had problems with mine. I will set the speed and it will be at least 5-10 mins before it actually hold the set speed. Until then, it will speed up and slow down.
I've pretty much given up on it - unless anyone has any ideas........... (hint, hint)

mine wont set at all
the system will turn on and off, but wont set when i push it down so i think it is vaccum related possibly.
does anyone know if the TF vac pump will fit in the tj to test???
Have u tried pulling the brake pedal out with your foot?? Maybe its a sticky brake switch that keeps switching the system off. I know because my car had the issues

if that is the case, did you get a new brake switch??

Nah i gave up with it. But drove 400km on the hwy today and cruise worked fine. Sat on 110km and didnt stop unless i flicked it. But i know my brakeswitch was sticking.
Cruise wouldnt work? Pull pedal out and it worked

Do you have LED brake lights? some times they are the culprits

TF Vac pump will fit no worries, check also the line and check with a vac tester that the cruise unit on the throttle body is also holding vac

+1. Had the same. Light came on but wouldn't set. Hope it's your problem!

if say that is the culprit, are these avaliable seperately or just the throttle body

unless the spoiler is a led no i dont

Hi, My cruise wasn't working and i took the pump unit (black thing near the washer bottle) out of a KF Verada and put it in my TJ Magana - exact same part as far as i can see, and it worked fine.

well swapped vaccum pumps out of the two cars(tf>tj and vice versa).tf still had cruise working.
beginning to think the switch is the problem.also checked all the vaccum lines and seem to be in good condition.

John if you have a copy of the workshop manual you can get the later cruise system (TH onwards) into diagnostic mode by turning the key to Acc, hold the cruise lever in the down position, turn the key to on, and flick the switch quickly up then release. Its a pain to get right so don't panic. Once you're in, you will get a constant regular flashing of the CRUISE lamp if the cruise ECU finds no fault or a flash code if somethings not right. In my case when I didn't wire my cruise up properly (I grabbed an ECU and all parts minus the looms, and wired all the wires accordingly - wires from the ECU to the vac pump, cruise stalk, brake switch etc) and it was detecting a fault with the vacuum pump, however after carrying out the tests on the pump, I found that the brake pedal switch was actually only a 2 wire switch (had 4 wires coming out but only 2 actually switched). flogged one off a wreck and wired her all in, right as rain.

Hmm car had a scan done 2 weeks back by a dealer,im sure it would have come up(only TCL codes were found

well bit of an update
had the car looked at by a mechanic at work, the vaccum lines and such are right. however he said that its the cruise switch or the Cruise ecu.basically when you press the button to turn it on it isint setting.
my question is now, would the cc ecu in my tf altera be compatible with my tj vr-x????

Question I have in regards to the cruise control on these cars. Do they operate the brake at all or are they purely throttle and thats it?
And secondly, is there any way to reflash it or configure it somehow to not turn off but simply go passive while the brake peddle is pressed?
It's better than no cruise control, but it would be even better again if I could simply slow down for traffic in front, then release and it'll automatically accelerate back to where it was without having to flick the switch up

Throttle only. It'd be silly otherwise, what if you were in heavy traffic, braked then lightly accellerated.... cruise kicks in, and runs into the car in front of you because it interpreted your operation of the throttle as... GO!
You can't have it both ways without significant technology beyond that existing in the Magna or investment in a much newer car.

Doubt it. The cruise on my TL is so aggressive in regaining set speed when cruise is re-engaged, that it scares me. lol I just get back up to the cruise speed with the right foot, before flicking up to engage.
No auto braking involved in the cruise setup. If you are going down a steep hill it will close the throttle, but it won't downshift or brake to avoid going over the set speed. You will need to buy a much newer car to do that. lol

Would be no different to without cruise control. If the brake pedal is depressed, no acceleration takes place

Interesting, mines very smooth (KF). Infact i'd describe it as a little bit cautious. It'll drop 5kph or so under on a hill then lightly accelerate up to speed. If I cruise along and re-engage the 80kph cruise at 40kph it doesn't suddenly surge. It accelerates a tiny bit faster than you would normally, then tapers off as it gets closer to 80kph, but its by no means aggressive
On flat ground it controls speed very smoothly. It would be hard for me to be smoother than the cruise

They only operate the throttle, however pressing the brake pedal will cause them to disengage (so will pressing the clutch pedal in a manual) after which you must explictly re-engage via the switch.

Goodness! Mine must be foobared then. lol Quite aggressive in acceleration, overshoots the mark, then eases off, accelerates a bit, etc. Quite definite movements of the throttle body butterfly, very noticeable. And this is re-engaging it at 40 while set at 60! Probably through lack of use, or something needs lubricating. Must have a look at it.

the Altera has never done this.its always been smooth even when re-engaging.however i always get back up to speed manually(not for any reason, just something i do)

Yes, that's what I do. Accelerate back to speed, get it spot on, then engage cruise. Smoother that way. Otherwise the car acts like a hoon!

Mine gets back up to speed quickly but smoothly, though, I still prefer to get back to cruise speed and flick resume.
But, I keep my finger resting on the stalk, ready in that moments notice to cancel it long before my foot touches the brake in an emergency brake.

Just for the heck of it here's mine going from 40kph to 80kph with just the cruise control, foot off the pedal once I engage it. Very smooth and sedate, unless your idea of a hoon is 0-100 in 20 seconds :dancin:

And fixed.turns out a vaccum line was put in the wrong place.
Mal had always said check the actuators on the throttle body, however mine had always been plugged into the manifold.quick swapover and itz working again.
Thanks for all the help guys :)

With my cruise control usually when I set it at 80km/h it accelerates by 2-3km/h and then slows back down to 80km/h.
Is this normal?
