View Full Version : Water in the cylinder block V6 TS

Hi, iv been currently doing a head gasket job on my magna v6 ts and was wondering how do i drain the water thats in the cylinder block walls, its not pooled up in the cylinders its in the little holes the run around the block, is there a drain plug or anything like that, that i need to take off

There's a drain plug on the front of the block, but it's hidden behind the exhaust manifold IIRC. It may be easier to put some tubing down the water jacket and with a bit of a suck, siphon it out. Doesn't all need to come out if you are doing the heads, just get the block face clean and dry. I certainly didn't drain it all out when I did my TS V6 heads.
PS. Make sure the distributor extension housing isn't leaking oil, new "O" ring required. Tends to fill up the V6 valley and pour out the gearbox side, a real bugger to trace to the source once the engine is back together.

Also are you able to reuse the cylinder head bolts or should i get new ones?

Re-use the current bolts. They are not the stretch, "torque-to-yield" type. Make sure the threads are clean (wire brush) and that there is no oil or water in the bottom of the holes for the head bolts in the block. Torque wrench settings and sequence are in the manual.
If your engine did in a head gasket, you really need to find out why. Any signs of corrosion? Are the surfaces of the heads still flat?

Thanks for that, the reason why the head gasket went was i drove her without oil, and since then she started blowing steam from the back of the engine around where the extractors and the head meets the block it would start steaming after about 10sec of starting her up, but she never over heated or switched off , when i pulled the head of the head gaslet was very wet and the graphite material was stuck to everything, but no signs of holes or cracks in both gaskets, taking the heads in to be pressure tested aswell
